Re: fuel tank issue

Yeah, getting the BBs out was a major drag. The next time I do this, I will use a hunk of chain.

I filled my tank with gas as soon as I got all the BBs out. It still looks pretty good, but I think it may have flash rusted while I was messing around with the magnet.

Re: compatible parts 79 CB650

Welcome! Congrats on the free ride.

I haven't checked it out yet, but I was sniffing around on http://forums.sohc4.net/ and saw a compatability chart on there somewhere. Worth checking out!

Re: 79 and almost starting...

This may sound totally stupid...

Do you have gas in the tank? Is the petcock turned on?

Re: wanted- and a problem

I'm going to back Volker on this one. If you had someone else (i.e. Honda dealer) put that tire on the rim for you, trailer--not ride--it back to the shop and make them fix it. Personally, I'd rip the guy who told you to "keep your hands on the bars" big time, and go to his supervisor. Tha...

Re: Signal issues :(

Sounds like crossed wires to me. http://cosky1.tripod.com/ has a wiring diagram, complete with original wire colors. You may need to spend some time tracing wires, especially if you took out the connectors to install your custom lighting rig. A good multimeter will help this process.

Re: fuel tank issue

There was another suggestion in another thread that involved the same procedure, except kerosene or diesel fuel was the cleaner and you use screws instead of BBs. I think the screws will probably work better. Maybe I'll try both at the same time.

Re: fuel tank issue

"CLR" is a brand of cleaning product... it stands for "Calcium, Lime, and Rust" cleaner. "BBs" are small metal balls used in air rifles and pellet guns.

Good point on the petcock screen. Above procedure has been edited to include that step.

Re: 2 bikes, $150

I put a battery in the Custom today... it turns over like a dream! I had the tank off pending cleaning, so no news on whether or not it runs. It's still missing the headlight, but the taillight came on and one turn signal lit up. Brake light works on the rear brake, front brake switch needs attentio...

Re: fuel tank issue

I took Jeremy's procedure and edited it so I could understand it better. I'll try this procedure tomorrow. Does anyone have any suggestions for sealing the tank after it's shiny and happy? I just fixed this problem on my bike. The tank was so rusty it would clog the carbs every time it ran. I don’t ...

Re: 1980 650, 1980 650C Compatibility

Upon closer inspection, the tail light assy on the Custom is looking more and more homemade. It looks as though a bracket was welded on, and a hollow tube welded to that, and the turn signal mounted to it with the wires fed through the tube. Black electrical tape holds the wiring to the welded brack...

Re: 1980 650, 1980 650C Compatibility

I bought the "parts bike" today. http://www.hondacb650.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2140 The rear light assembly seems to be different, too. Looks original stock to me. From the standard http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h13/emperorspartacus/Honda%20project%20bikes/Originalrearlightassembly...

Re: 2 bikes, $150

"1980 Honda CB650C parts bike - $150" The ad stated it has been parked in his shed since 1997 and he simply wants it off his property. Missing headlight and had a jammed return throttle cable. The pictures got me interested. I bought it, and this is what I saw. http://i60.photobucket.com/a...

2 bikes, $150

About 7 years ago, my friend Bob bought a rat 1980 CB650 standard from an in-law. He and I got it in our heads we could tear it down and do a frame-up restoration in 2 months. Well, long story short, we got the tear it down phase done, and then ran out of money and time. It remained in pieces throug...
