Re: Coil Relay Mod on 83 650
Aha! I read the instructions as replacing the starter solenoid for some reason. Way off... So last thing I'm a little fuddled on is the black and white wire...this goes from the kill switch back to rhe igniter box and splits into two after the harness for the coils. Do i cut it after the harn...

Re: Coil Relay Mod on 83 650
Ok, I read the instructions a few more times and made a drawing of my own. So does this mod take the starter button out of the equation and purely depend on the kill switch? So off=nothing and switch to on and it starts up since there is power to the coils right away? This makes sense somewhat but t...

Coil Relay Mod on 83 650
Have an 83 Nighthawk 650 and my electrical system is being a pain with starts. Cleaned the carbs about 4 times after sitting for a couple months determined this was the issue but they are now spotless. Found if I jump the terminals on my solenoid it starts great but with a couple different relays I ...

Re: 83 650 Nighthawk Starting Probs
It's the dohc model, so it has the hydraulic valve adjusters situated under the rockers. Upon rebuild I had to bleed the liquid out and refill them but used oil to refill them. I referred back to the manual later to see that Honda used kerosene to do so, because of a lower density. I could hear them...

Re: 83 650 Nighthawk Starting Probs
OK I'm silly, spark test in the day fools my eyes..haha  as far as compression, will the hydraulic tappets cause issues with the valves if they fail to pump up? I'm wondering if I need to take them out, bleed them and use the kerosene. I used oil the first time which I've seen opinions both wa...

Re: 83 650 Nighthawk Starting Probs
I honestly haven't checked with a gauge since I rebuilt, I recently just did the finger over the spark plug pop test with good results, but I know that can be subjective and not guarantee anything. I need to borrow a gauge again and check for sure. Spark is not there either which is odd....when the ...

83 650 Nighthawk Starting Probs
Been a while since I've been around but I'm at wits end here...bike was running in the fall great, would start every now and then to keep it happy in the cold months. Getting ready for the warm weather and did some carb cleaning to remedy a non fire issue on cylinder one. Now it's back together and ...

Re: Noob Carb Help...
Idle jet or choke issues. low compression maybe I'm thinking you are right on the jet, I opened the top and it had some thick crud, I'd imagine the bowl isn't much better. Bad spark plug maybe? I've had them do strange things. Pretty much there is a problem with the gas, the spark, amount of air ge...

Re: Noob Carb Help...
Back with more questions! So this has been running pretty good, only put a couple dozen miles on it so far and have it sold to a friend, but the first cylinder takes a little to warm up, what would cause that, carb issue potentially when cold? The pipes get scalding hot within minutes, but the first...

Re: Need help! Won't start
What's the wiring like now? Kill switch hooked up or bypassed to ensure the circuits complete? I've had smaller bikes not start due to dirty solder points on the switches before as well, not sure the standing of the parts you got. Like if they came off a working vehicle and whatnot. But yeah somethi...

Spark plug wires in right order? Just had the same problem and that was my culprit.

She still ain't pretty but she runs! Throttle is sticking a little and tweaking a couple small exhaust leaks, but overall holding idle well and everything seems to be firing

Re: Noob Carb Help...
3 months after getting this bike with the top end completely off, I have rebuilt, cleaned, tuned most everything in the engine and the bike fired up for the first time last night. So proud and shout out to everyone who helped, especially Cb650 for hooking it up on some critical parts. Little more wor...

Re: WTB: 83-85 Cb650 Starter
I did! Cb650 hooked me up with one. Great price though, I'm sure there would be someone else out there very happy to take it off your hands. Thanks for reaching out regardless.

Re: Noob Carb Help...
Dropped a circlip in my crankcase. Fished it out after two days of trying, holy crap. Had to take the head off again! Nearing getting this puppy fired up, need to work out some wiring issues. Using oven cleaner to remove the black paint off the turn signals you sent me, Cb650. Chrome seems pretty in...
