Looks like the LED headlight you bought is for a car/truck/jeep rather than a motorcycle. If there aren’t 2 different wires for turn signals, then they’re wired together. You need to buy a motorcycle specific one to have it work like you want it too.

Re: Old Smokey is still smokin!
Old Smokey out for a ride yesterday… running like a champ. Less smoke now (using 15w40 oil)…

Re: Old Smokey is still smokin!
We installed aftermarket needles, and raised their position 1 notch (the bike would bog when you opened the throttle, and that drastically improved it. HI, I have a question for you based on the above statement. I have the same carbs (PD 50) and want to change needle positions as well, I just am un...

Re: 81 650 turn signal switch
It’s a retainer for the wires... might go in under the top side of the switch. It’s been a few years since I had mine apart...

Re: Cam chain
The recesses in the gear should allow you to slide it down, and manipulate it around to be able to get everything to line up... if you have no slack, you need to get the cam chain tensioner to release... even with that released, you can usually only roll it one link at a time... it like one of those...

Re: Cam chain
Hi, its been a while since I last did this but as far as I recall I put the chain on the sprocket before seating the sprocket on the camshaft, then put the sprocket bolts in when everything was lined up properly. Yup, you’re correct. You have to remove the gear from the camshaft (2 10mm bolts), sli...

Re: Old Smokey is still smokin!
I realize I forgot to mention the valves... I was trying to be thorough, and totally whiffed on it! Haha... When I say the bike is still burning oil, it both because the bike is using oil (level is down from where it was), and I’m getting some smoke out of the exhaust (only on deceleration from high...

Re: Old Smokey is still smokin!
Hi flatlander, you don't mention anything about your valves, did you re-seat them and change the valve stem seals? When they go bad oil gets past them into the combustion chamber. I lapped the valves and replaced the valve seals... I thought that might have been the problem 2 years ago, but she was...

Old Smokey is still smokin!
Hey everyone! I have a 1980 CB650 custom that I rebuilt 5 years ago, and I’m having an oil burning issue. I dubbed the bike Ol’ Smokey a while ago, but I’ve been doing my best to keep the smoke in where it should be. Recently I redid the top end (with the help of my Dad), since I had low compression...

Old Smokey is back!
I have to admit I haven’t been very active on this forum much lately... it’s been a good resource, so I’ll try to check in more and contribute when I can. My 1980 CB650 Custom is back with a vengeance. Something was always a little off with the bike (hard starting, burning oil, running a bit rough, ...

Re: Why does my light switch have 3 positions?
I’d like to see a pic of the switch you’re talking about. The light switch should have 3 wires. Power, which runs from the starter switch (the power is actually disconnected when the starter switch is pushed), then out to low beam (usually white) and high beam (usually blue). The switch shouldn’t ha...

Re: Carb rebuild kit for PD51A
Hey Ekos, I rebuilt the carbs on my 1980 CB650 a few years ago. I had to punch holes in the top gaskets as well since I bought an aftermarket carb rebuild kit. Those gaskets aren’t as critical as others (eg. float bowls)... Also, I would separate them unless you had to. When you separate them, the h...

My other project: 1975 GL1000
It is a beast! Way different ride than the 650, but I’m liking it a lot! It cruises at 70mph so nice! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190816/a2590846a377ce8d9fefa3687b904b96.jpg I’ve got all the bodywork almost painted... still deciding on the exact paint scheme. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/...
