Re: Highway Foot Pegs

My Nighthawk is called Ethyl after a tractor I used to drive, I've had her up to 50 but only for a short while as I've honed the barrels (jugs) and fitted new piston rings. If I do need to use a motorcycle on our motorways I'll use my Zephyr 750 :)

Re: Highway Foot Pegs

There's too many bendy bits in the UK to be of much use over here and I'm certainly not going at any motorway speeds (70 mph) on a nearly 40 year old bike

The bike has to be vertical on level ground, stood only on its tires.

Re: 1982 650 Nighthawk beginning maintenance

Here is a link to folsoml's excellent video if it is your gear change shaft oil seal http://youtu.be/UZFFKhXBAw4 . One thing I would add if your gear change shaft is rusty or corroded, get a piece of thin plastic sheet, the kind of stuff that milk cartons are made of, and roll it into a tube, insert...

Re: 1982 650 Nighthawk beginning maintenance

I would remove the left hand engine cover and check the gear change oil seal as these tend to leak often, it should be obvious if it is leaking.

Re: Misfiring Is Weird?

Hi Rgus, my first suggestion would be to check your spark plugs to see if there is an obvious difference between plugs 1+2 and 3+4, which might indicate that your air/fuel mixture might need adjusting on carbs 3+4. I would suggest new spark plugs, caps and leads, relatively cheap and easy to do, if ...

I can see why you wanted to remove the fairing, it looks so much better without it 8)

Re: 1982 650 Nighthawk beginning maintenance

Actually I bought a CB650 Custom that was a non runner, it had brand new chain and sprockets on it so I just swapped them over to my Nighthawk. I don't know what make they were but all sprocket/chain sets for SOHC CB650's are interchangeable, its the number of teeth at each sprocket that is the only...

Re: poor performance

I found that there is no GASKET on my air filter - part #17217-426-300. Could this be the problem? anyone now were can I get this part? (it is missing in any site that I go to) If it is missing then it "could" be a problem, mine was also missing but I cut one out of a thick rubber type sh...

Hi Mr_Crow, sorry to hear that, have a read through this thread, it will tell you how to test your battery and I think your charging system if your battery checks out ok, electrickery stuff gives me right pain in the head  http://www.hondacb650.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=13337&hilit=stato...

Re: 1982 650 Nighthawk beginning maintenance

The bottom side plate nobble is still on the bike! looks like its good condition as well. Wondering what kind of tricks I can use to re attach the nob so it will hold... checked out the air filter and it looked like it was in good condition, but there was a good chunk of leaves inside the filter. I...

Re: My CB650SC Nighthawks

Pretty darn good looking bike! Made me realize that I need to spend much more time cleaning my nighthawk lol. Thanks Mr_Crow :) , the bike was filthy in that pic as I'd just ridden to the MOT centre (UK road worthiness certificate) in a January rain/sleet shower. Cleaning them is all part of the ma...
