Re: idles really high. Can't even adjust black idle knob to resolve it

Does it rev higher when you switch the choke off? it appears that way in the vid but I'm unsure of the choke lever operation on the Nighthawk. Is the choke cable connected correctly? Is the air filter in and the cover on? What happens if you give it some throttle? Have you removed a plug to see what...

Re: Where to chop exhaust?

Gotcha. So I'm probably better off just rejetting for the straight pipes and v stacks. If that doesn't work out I may look into a head and CV swap. CP, my point being that it may not be as simple as just the head swap, the bolts that hold the barrels on "seem" to be in different locations...

Re: Where to chop exhaust?

What's required to run CV carbs? A new cylinder head at least  I've heard it said that only the spacings on the carb inlets are different between the CV and slide carb heads but there seems to be a bit more to it than that. I know from experience that the head gaskets are different between th...

Re: 79 carb choke linkage broke!

Found it straight away, unfortunately the pictures have gone due to that lousy Photobucket crapping out last year, but the description and a crude sketch are still there.

It seems like a viable alternative if you couldn't find a replacement.

Re: 79 carb choke linkage broke!

I have seen somewhere on the interwebby where the choke shaft was fixed by welding an extra piece on to the shaft and a lever was then bolted on to the extended part to create a manual choke lever. I'll see if I can find it again and post a link. Please bear in mind that it is nearly bedtime in the ...

I was lucky to find this on ebay, its from a 1976/77 CB750 but I don't think they are or were available separately, you had to buy the rest of the linkage. Where are you located?

Re: Where to chop exhaust?

CP, have you actually had this bike running properly? I would delay chopping your pipes until the bike is running fine so that if there is a problem, you can't blame it on your lack of back pressure from your exhausts.

Re: Carb valve things

Ok, so if I "T'd" them all together into one line in the middle (open ended) to keep dust/dirt out, would it hurt? Why would you bother? If one of your carbs had an overflow problem then you wouldn't know which one it was until you pulled the T off. I think that is probably one of the rea...

Re: Carb valve things

Yes there would have been pipes attached when new, this is where you would attach your clear tube when checking your fuel level with the clear tube method.

so you guys don't mind the cb650 81? mine is an 82 cb650SC. Hopefully that year they took care of what wasn't so popular the year before :? jj, same engines mate  My CB650 Custom is a 1980 with slide carbs, my Nighthawk is the same year as yours, with the CV carbs, the only real difference bei...

Re: Carb valve things

Those little nipples are your float bowl overflows. If your carbs get too much fuel going in then this is where the excess fuel will come out, this is to prevent your engine filling up with fuel which can be very bad for your engine. Too much fuel in the carbs can be caused by a sticking float needl...
