Re: idles really high. Can't even adjust black idle knob to resolve it

"sorry if I'm repeating myself but although the idle is high, with the choke in use it revs to 6krpms. so that wouldn't be due to extra fuel?" That's what the choke does jj, it enriches the fuel to air mixture, less air means more fuel getting into the engine so it will rev higher when the...

Re: idles really high. Can't even adjust black idle knob to resolve it

When I first bought my Custom the PO had put cables on from a CB650Z which is the road version in the UK, they have straight flat bars on them, hence cables way too short

Re: Stator issues/replacement

I've never had a buggered up screw stay stuck with this method, it is a last resort that will destroy the screw head. Put your screwdriver blade in one of the flats of the crosshead +- so that you only have the smallest section of metal to notch, the remains of the crosshead is already notched, so t...

Re: 79 carb choke linkage broke!

If you do go that way can you update the rest of us with any pitfalls or benefits to your method. The one thing that I would make sure of is to get an extension piece welded on absolutely straight.

It would appear that your bike was revving higher because you were putting your choke on.

Re: Center Stand

Very nice Rich :D what's wrong with the exhaust on it?, though I couldn't really see it in the vid. I like the fume extractor system 8) I might rig something up like that myself but direct it under my compressor shed to try get rid of the bloody mice that have taken up residence  Have a look a...

Re: Stator issues/replacement

I should also add, do it on a work bench not on a concrete floor or you'll scratch the hell out of the casing  don't ask me how I know  An extra pair of hands may come in useful to hold the case steady while you hit the screwdriver.

Re: Stator issues/replacement

CP, you can try the flat blade screwdriver/chisel method, you need an old flat blade screwdriver that has the metal going all the way through the handle. You place the screwdriver on one part of the cross head but right to the edge of the screw, hold the screwdriver vertical and hit it with a hammer...

jj, I wouldn't go taking anything off at the moment, just check everything that I mentioned first, like is your air filter and cover installed?

Re: idles really high. Can't even adjust black idle knob to resolve it

Does it rev higher when you switch the choke off? it appears that way in the vid but I'm unsure of the choke lever operation on the Nighthawk. Is the choke cable connected correctly? Is the air filter in and the cover on? What happens if you give it some throttle? Have you removed a plug to see what...

Re: Where to chop exhaust?

Gotcha. So I'm probably better off just rejetting for the straight pipes and v stacks. If that doesn't work out I may look into a head and CV swap. CP, my point being that it may not be as simple as just the head swap, the bolts that hold the barrels on "seem" to be in different locations...
