Re: how's my spark?

jj, you would need one for the 12mm plug if you decide you want to buy one. They are not an essential tool, you can play about with your mixture screws to get the same results. They are what I would describe as a lazy tool

Re: CB650C clutch cover leak

Also, those little gasket rubbers on top of the engine, they are cracked and need replaced....I have no idea what they are called. There are several of them, looks to be two different styles for the same function based on where they are located, if memory serves (the bike is not in front of me righ...

Re: CB650C clutch cover leak

Secondly, has those gaskets for the rubber rings on the top of the heads gotten any more available of late? Last I checked, they were pretty rare, and I really got tired of the 650 peeing a little oil on my left leg every time we went out. My leathers started to get fouled! Ideas?? :? Do you mean t...

Re: CB650C clutch cover leak

Hi bubba, https://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-CB-550-650-CLUTCH-COVER-GASKET-79-82-SOHC-11394-426-306-650-1-/122123250801 and welcome back. This one seems to be a bit thicker than your average pattern gasket. Pay no attention if a high postage price appears in any link I provide from ebay, I'm in the UK ...

Re: how's my spark?

All i can say is even if the spark looks good outside the engine it can actually be no spark when phe plug is mounted. Seems to me the best solution for you is actually find someone that is a bike mechanic to look over your bike. Or he could use one of these, but I don't think that is anythi...

Re: idles really high. Can't even adjust black idle knob to resolve it

Two things I dislike about the CB650. :x On the DOHC Honda's the starter clutch is easy to get to and the cam tensioners are right there as well. Well I haven't had a DOHC 650 Honda yet, but I wouldn't rule anything out. Maybe the design faults are why SOHC 650's are relatively cheap..............a...

Re: idles really high. Can't even adjust black idle knob to resolve it

You have my bike! Is that the 650? Take her back out and fix her up and we can be best friends! Well, we can see... You do realize that when your bike is running you will have more experience with a 650 Nighthawk than I do? Then it'll be your turn to give advice :D I have had my bike running ...

Re: idles really high. Can't even adjust black idle knob to resolve it

"sorry if I'm repeating myself but although the idle is high, with the choke in use it revs to 6krpms. so that wouldn't be due to extra fuel?" That's what the choke does jj, it enriches the fuel to air mixture, less air means more fuel getting into the engine so it will rev higher when the...

Re: idles really high. Can't even adjust black idle knob to resolve it

When I first bought my Custom the PO had put cables on from a CB650Z which is the road version in the UK, they have straight flat bars on them, hence cables way too short

Re: Stator issues/replacement

I've never had a buggered up screw stay stuck with this method, it is a last resort that will destroy the screw head. Put your screwdriver blade in one of the flats of the crosshead +- so that you only have the smallest section of metal to notch, the remains of the crosshead is already notched, so t...

Re: 79 carb choke linkage broke!

If you do go that way can you update the rest of us with any pitfalls or benefits to your method. The one thing that I would make sure of is to get an extension piece welded on absolutely straight.
