Re: Spare Change Project First Bike

I've got good news! That's an easy fix. You can simply cut a new gasket out of whatever material you have at hand. I have old bicycle inner tubes that I keep around just for such a purpose. If you do not have something like this, you can literally cut one out of a cardboard cereal box. You the Man!...

Re: Spare Change Project First Bike

Might have to give it a try. I think mine is leaking more from the center where the nut connects. Wonder if there is supposed to be a washer or something that meets up with the tank outlet.

Gas tank Petcock

Does anyone know where I can get an aftermarket gas tank petcock cheap? If anyone knows an alternative to the original petcock please post a link to it. My old one is leaking and don't know why. Wasn't before I started working on replacing the fuel filter. I order one but it didn't fit after the des...

Re: New to forum, new to Nighthawks. Howdy...

Looks like you got some progress. Easy way I have seen the engine removed. Strip it down as far as you can. Even remove the tires. Then get you a furniture dolly from Harbor Freight or a piece of plywood. Lay it beside the bike. Carefully lay it on its side on the dolly. Unbolt it and left the frame...

That is too nice of a bike to Cafe'. Be a realest and keep it the way it is. Maybe upgrade the exhaust. Just ride it the way it is and enjoy it.

Re: Spare Change Project First Bike

Where are you located, DT? I am in South Carolina. Yes you heard right. I have already lost about 30-40%. Just had surgery not to long ago to remove pressure on my eye. Gave me about 3-5 years. Don't know when or how long, but things will go dark one day. If that's not enough I have to have foot su...

Re: Spare Change Project First Bike

Visual inspection can be a good defense when it comes to tires but what you don't see is how they've hardened and will not grip the road when turning or braking, or how brittle they have become and will shatter on the first big bump you get to. Tires are the ONLY thing between you and the road. Inv...

Re: Spare Change Project First Bike

 :D I know...the front tire is about the same. It is more in the tread groves. What it the pisser is the tires have a lot of tread on them. If it wasn't for the cracks the tires would be good to go. Anyone know where you can buy a cheap set of tires? Carb spray is the killer. But it can fix som...

Re: Spare Change Project First Bike

Well after reading the thread about rebuilding the carbs on these CB650. I thought I would go ahead and try and fix the T-Fitting between the carbs. Some times it is just better to leave things alone. Well I fix the t-fitting issue by using a small piece of fuel line and drilling a small hole in it....

Re: Spare Change Project First Bike

I am so glad I found this forum. I was on the SOHC4 forum and didn't get much info from those guys. They are more wrap around CB750 and CB550. But I have found the article about the carbs on this forum which I needed. Just wish I found it earlier when I was rebuilding my carbs. Finding out I really ...

Re: Spare Change Project First Bike

Thanks for the info. I saw the link to trouble shooting common problems and found an answer to a question I had for some time about the carbs. I once had gas that came out of some hole in between 1/2 and 3/4 carbs. Apparently I am missing the vacuum T-Hoses that go there. This could be my gas smell ...

Re: Spare Change Project First Bike

Thanks for the kind words. Yes I should replace the tires and hopefully soon. Have to sell off some more stuff in order to get a set of tires. My next issue is figuring out what size chain this takes. I think I need a 530x104L. It has a 0-ring chain on it now and some of the 0-rings are coming off. ...

I watch you video from the PO. TO me it sounds like a broken valve spring or it could be a broken valve. You need to crack the head or at least take the valve covers off.
