One further comment on the starter clutch. Mine was damaged because the screws that hold it together came unscrewed! Scraping the screw heads against the next part while spining.

I found this on SOHCforum.
If you get into the bottom, check the starter clutch, I had to replace mine (cheap on ebay) there is a tutorial on here.

Re: '82 cb650sc project
And now back to our regularly scheduled nonsense. I wanted the open-triangle look without the hassle of pods and jets, so this is my system to hide the filter under the seat and duct the air through the stock distribution box. The custom parts are fiberglass cloth and epoxy, spray painted black. The...

Re: '82 cb650sc project
Oops! That last one is out of order, so I'll put the rest here so there is some context.
I couldn't remember how I took the clutch nut off, so I had to make a tool to put it back on. I used what was in the cut off box. Spacer from aluminum on the lathe.

There is a strap that goes from the top of the hook to the bottom front of the motor. The balance is close.

Welcome to the forum Vintagerider, this may be the quietest forum that isn't dead yet, but we're still trying to keep it alive. Congrats on the starter cllutch repair, if it doesn't hold, the clutch I got came from a small 3 wheeler (atc 125?) At a good price and it was perfect. Are you here in the ...

Re: '82 cb650sc project
I used my lathe to round over the end of a 3/4" steel bar about 10" long. I cut the aliminum to the pattern to make a box, but instead of folding it I hammered it around the bar using the rounded end for the corners. The curves were greatly enhanced during the forming process. Here is a pi...
