Head gasket issue.

Hi guys! So, after I got this used last year, over winter I have a mechanic friend rebuilding the engine (which had a lot of small leaks and apparently was gunky). I bought a rebuild kit from ebay, picture listed the correct part, but the kit came with the wrong headgasket. Everywhere in America is ...

Re: Hard to start, great when running

When I first got it I cleaned out what looked like a birds nest out of the filter lol. Really was just a bunch of leaves. I cleaned it off but it does seem like some oil or fluid gets onto the filter. Once any warm weather goes away for the year (which should be soon) I am going to completely take h...

Hard to start, great when running

Ever since my recent oil change my 82' is having a hard time starting. It sparks, and seems like it turns over but I have to rev pretty high with the choke on to get it to stay on. After it warms up though it runs great! I suck at this diagnosing stuff, any idea on what I can work on to fix this?

Re: 1982 650 Nighthawk beginning maintenance

Here is a link to folsoml's excellent video if it is your gear change shaft oil seal http://youtu.be/UZFFKhXBAw4 . One thing I would add if your gear change shaft is rusty or corroded, get a piece of thin plastic sheet, the kind of stuff that milk cartons are made of, and roll it into a tube, inser...

Should be getting my license soon, I-Dot is taking its sweet ti...

Re: 1982 650 Nighthawk beginning maintenance

I watched a Youtube vid of a guy using a soldering iron to weld a side panel lug back on. He used bits of old plastic from a broken side panel as his "welding rod" and melted paper clips into the plastic as reinforcements. I'll see if I can find it. Here ya go! https://www.youtube.com/watc...

Re: 1982 650 Nighthawk beginning maintenance

The bottom side plate nobble is still on the bike! looks like its good condition as well. Wondering what kind of tricks I can use to re attach the nob so it will hold... checked out the air filter and it looked like it was in good condition, but there was a good chunk of leaves inside the filter.
