Re: Cam chain tensioner question

Thanks Volker. I pulled the head and lifted the cylinders a bit and got it all together. Hopefully I'll ride the bike to work tomorrow. I couldn't get the cam sprocket on the cam. Very frustrating. The chain was grinding a bit when I pulled on it. I figured it came off the crank sprocket so I hooked...

Re: Cam chain tensioner question

So no getting around pulling the head and cylinders then. Crap. My own darn fault too. :(

Where exactly is this groove located the adjuster fits into?

Re: Cam chain tensioner question

so the notch is just forward of where you see the bottom of the tensioner with the oil pan removed? Do I have to tilt it or what? Thanks again.

Cam chain tensioner question

Is it possible to get the tensioner into the groove with the cylinders and head installed? I realized I had it installed incorrectly and need to rectify that. I can't seem to get it seated. The cam and sprocket are removed. I can't see down the chain tunnel as the frame rail is in the way. I really ...

What's the trick?

To getting the center valve cover on and keeping the gasket from falling out? Pretty frustrating trying to keep the gasket in the groove and get the cover into position without it falling out.

I've done it before but it doesn't want to stay in the cover. Grrrrrrrr!!

Re: Ignition advancer locating pin

Good question. I was turning the engine over to adjust the valves. With spark plugs removed of course. This was after pulling the top end to replace the o-rings. Sheared off the end of the advancer shaft and broke the locating pin off. I really don't know why it happened. Now I wish I would have jus...

Re: Ignition advancer locating pin

That's the one. I ordered a used advancer with the pin intact. Solved the problem. I should have done that a while ago. Live and learn. It's what happens when a professional chef does his own wrenching.

Now I just need to finish getting it all back together and pray it starts. :)

Ignition advancer locating pin

Has anyone ever sheared one? I did and cannot get the two halves out of either the advancer or the crankshaft. It is very hard metal and I purchased a bit designed for such but no joy. When you pull the advancer does the pin pull right out or is it bonded to the advancer? How much pin protrudes from...
