Re: Newly aquired 1979 CB 650 project

Thanks , I'm at 1500ft elevation on a plateau . To be honest I haven't look at the jetting yet . I've checked the plug tips from time to time and I may be running slightly rich . I have no history from the PO , so I'm assuming the jets most likely are stock .

Well ... looks like time to take the bike in :(
I was wanting to do a winter tear down but a friend wants me to get his Yamaha 650 project running , being a one bike workshop It'll have to wait . I'm waiting for a carb kit for my snowmobile so I can get ready for the white stuff :)

Re: Newly aquired 1979 CB 650 project

Thanks Volker , let's try this again .
I just installed a set of Woodcraft clip-ons that a friend gave me . My wrists feel alot better than the narrow clubmans and lowered the stance of the bike a couple inches .

The extended controls are called rear sets , you'll see alot of them on ebay , I have no experience with the quality so buyer beware .

Re: Newly aquired 1979 CB 650 project

I'm back home again after attending a 4 day scooter rally as a road test for my bike . It went pretty well , I had a minor oil leak which I found was the O rings on my oil pump . I guess the aftermarket ones do not stand up to the heat from the engine . I found I had difficulty shifting down into th...

Re: 79 CB 650, top end oil leak

Holy that was a very sloppy Redkote job :-O My boss would have had a fit if he saw work like that go out of the shop . ( I worked at a rad shop ) I plan to buy a can of Redkote for mine as I had numerous pinholes .
Btw Acetone removes Redkote ;)

Re: Newly aquired 1979 CB 650 project

Everything's done . I've gone over every bolt , found a couple loose ones . No gas leaks , no oil leaks . I'm dying to ride but no insurance yet , so I'm restricted to around the neighborhood . I plan on getting a 3 day permit to attend the rally , but if 3 months is comparable I'll shoot for the 3 ...
