Re: VB44A Carb passageways
Steven,
I was aboard the Essex for a brief time. But I was mostly in land-based units. Did counter drug ops on a CG in the carribbean.

Re: VB44A Carb passageways
If they are truly clogged, I would soak it in carb cleaner overnight, then run the wire through again. I use a small guitar string to do it. Just make sure you remove all rubber parts before doing that.

Re: Project CB650
More a guess than anything. I had a similar problem with a car that had sat for awhile. The exhaust valve would stay open for a milisecond too long on #3 cylinder. It eventually bent the rocker arm, and had to be replaced. It was due to sludge.

Re: Now I am a little confused.
I agree Volker. Once I get the reading from the rotor, I will see where I need to go from there. The reading I got was about 15 ohms. My multimeter is old (25 years), but it is very good for its time. My fluke is very modern, and very accurate. I treated the carbs with Seafoam, but I couldn't find a...

Re: Project CB650
+1 on the above. Seafoam works wonders. The white smoke seems to be a carb thing, maybe old fuel deposits etc. Mine is smoking after having sat for over a year also. Some of it is from a sticky valve though.

Re: Now I am a little confused.
I know it. I have been spoiled by my digital fluke. I am headed down to the shop now to put fresh oil and plugs in her, and see how she runs. I am going to jump start her, just to get her running. My buddy wont be back until next week, so I am stuck on the rotor bit. I did find an aftermarket rotor ...

Re: dry dead battery
Ha! Yes, my grandfather (god rest him) used to do that to EVERY dead battery, only he used Coca-Cola. I think he filled them with water.... Some of those old batteries are still in our shop, with a good charge left on them!

Re: Now I am a little confused.
So, I forgot to mention that I did a little Voltage test on the rotor, before I found my multi-meter....and I was getting a positive voltage from both rings on the rotor, when I connected a lead wire from the brushes to one of the rings. That was my first clue that it had shorted.

Re: This CB650 smokes!
You might be in for a long ride. I bought one that didn't run, but when I got it running I discovered a LOT of issues that needed to be worked out. If you are looking for a cool project...get the bike. That is a good price for a runner. Also, what color is the smoke? Blue, white, black? Blue could b...

Need 1982 CB650SC Nighthawk parts
Left and Right Covers (Midnight Blueish) Stator Cover -Chrome...hopefully Valve covers The bike went down some time ago, because the PO never had it running, and the owner prior to that sold it in 2005....The stator cover is all scratched up, but the rest of the bike is fine. Re: Now I am a little confused.
Hmmm, well....I am still not sure which setting on the multi-meter to use. My Fluke is much easier. Rx1/Rx10/Rx100 are the options I have. If the reading on Rx1 is between 10 and 20....I am assuming that means 10-20 ohms. Right?
