Re: Part interchangability
Found on another forum. The author has provided Lighting is the same for '80+ (the '79 has square signals?) Chain length changes between years, this may be due to the sprocket sizes, can't confirm any swing arm length changes. Chain lengths did change, the '79 swingarm is about an inch shorter than...

Re: CB650 engine in CB750 frame
How did it go? I'm trying to do something similar... So what are you trying to transplant into your (?)650 frame. I can tell you a cb550 will fit. I have bolted a cb550 motor in a '81 cb650 frame I have in the garage, just to see if it fits... Bolted right up. Never ran it like that, and don't reme...

Re: Can you use the sohc 650 cam in a cb 500 motor?

Another on the site said he had to dremel a little more clearnce in a couple spots. Dont know about deg the cam. Its doughtfull youd get a lopo cam as its was German ...

Tried it, nearly fits, but not quite.
A few custom brackets MIGHT give you the fit you need.

Have you tried cracking open the gas cap to see if your top speed increases?
Mabey a starvation of gas due to no tank venting....
Good luck!

Re: Looking for a set of 1981 Cylinders
all the SOHC cb650 cylinder jugs are identical spacing as well as bore and length of sleeves. Been into quite a few of them... and going stock is boring IMO... But then again I have a 652cc cb650... stock is 627cc. And my next ride will either be 740+cc's. Depending on whether I can fit these 66mm's...

The kit came with the dyna2000 unit and a set of 2.2 ohm coils for about 389.
The programming software, another 80.
In the end.... With how I modified my bike, I think it was worth it.

Re: spark unit
One thing that will help these not melt, is keep the time your key is on the ignition position without the motor running. And yeah, putting the black goo in there is better than nothing. Although I did run a set for nearly a year that had nearly no goo at all. I am glad I no longer have to deal with...

Re: a new way to ride...
Have topped out what my '79 will do in this position.
Yeah it's interesting, but too great of a body shift to get in control of the shifter and brake if needed for regular use.
Deserted highway? sure, city driving, no way.

Re: 79' cb650 carbs
80 carbs will work. 650's didnt go with the CV carbs untill 81. Soos has used 750 carbs on his. Yeah the PD50 a/b are compatible('79/'80) cb650 carbs. And i'm with you on the carb rebuild cost on these. Astronomical. There are options, some more straightforward, some not so much. If changing carbs,...

Re: 1979 cb650 for sale
Well... that would be a loss.. The '79cb650 is unique. The '80-'82 SOHC cb650's all share a common frame/tank/and a plethora of parts. The '79's frame, tank, sidecovers, airbox, rims, and other things are unique to THAT YEAR ONLY for the cb650.... The motor and most of the electronics are swappable....

CV cb650 carbs will also fit on the NON CV cb650 head IF you use a set of carb isolators from the above mentioned kawasaki ninja.

Re: 79 Frankenbike it started with a crate motor
hahha..... or you could drop those old carbs like a bad habit, throw that CV head back on, and run kawasaki ninja 600cc carbs. :):) they drop in almost perfectly spaced(like 1/32 off) and mount to the CV head well. They also fit on the non CV heads if you use the ninja 600cc ('84-'91/'92) carb isola...
