Re: Cam chain noise

Well, after looking closely at the pics and wishing very badly that it wasn't so, I believe that CB650 is right: I think the cam chain adjuster is installed incorrectly. This pic is from another thread and shows the adjuster installed WRONG. http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z189/uberkafer/CB650/Wr...

Re: Cam chain noise

If the tensioner IS installed incorrectly, how far down do I have to take the engine to correct it?

Re: Cam chain noise

CB650, unfortunately, NO I have not checked the adjuster to see if it's installed correctly. To do that would require removal of the engine. I could try removing the exhaust and the sump, but even then I can't be sure I could see what I need to see. I have ZERO evidence that this engine has ever bee...

Cam chain noise

I have an '82 CB650 engine in my '72 CB500. It has what sounds to me like some cam chain noise. Adjusting the valves and the cam chain don't seem to do much to quiet it down. I've done the full 3K mile tune-up; checked timing (custom ignition for the engine swap), valves, synched carbs, etc., etc. I...

It should be working now. The SOHC4 Forums were/are having some server upgrades and issues. It's been intermittent for the last couple of days.

1972 CB500 with CB650 engine....cafe-ish bike

It pains me to do it....it's like trying to pick which child to get rid of....but I simply MUST thin out the herd and make room in the garage. Plus, I want to focus on my new 550F survivor bike. This is probably the first of at least one or two more bikes to hit the block. Currently nominated for Bi...

Cam chain tensioner

I have an '82 CB650 engine in my CB500. I think the cam chain has too much noise in it. I adjusted the tensioner when the engine was on the stand. I've adjusted it at least three times since the engine has been in the bike and running (not WHILE the engine was running, but since it has been running)...

Re: A rebuild is looming; EDIT: Maybe not....bad carb synch?

Now I listened to the video. All I hear is some clutch rattle, here in fact carb synchronization may help. Well, you can't check the cam chain tension at the sprocket on a CB650. There should be a small cutout in that sprocket cover at the front side. Not large, but sufficient for view and a small ...

Re: A rebuild is looming; EDIT: Maybe not....bad carb synch?

Looking back through pics I took when I was building the bike... do these tell you anything? http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z189/uberkafer/CB650/P3040080_zpsdcda8ee7.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z189/uberkafer/CB650/P3040091Small_zps59ed386e.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z189/...

Re: A rebuild is looming; EDIT: Maybe not....bad carb synch?

They're talking about the primary chain tensioner. I'm hearing noise up top, like maybe it's the cam chain. Or am I not understanding what you're trying to tell me? :?:

Re: New member, new project

Thanks! Bike's been running great. I just got rid of some dieseling issues by vacuum synching the carbs and adjusting the valves. The cam chain is a little noisier than I'd like, but not sure what to do about that right now. I couldn't really enjoy riding the bike because I was constantly checking t...

Re: A rebuild is looming; EDIT: Maybe not....bad carb synch?

I bought the engine in a bare frame, along with a pile of parts, from Craigslist for, I think, $175.

Can you tell me a little more about the cam chain deal you're talking about? Is it something that can be fixed with the engine in the frame?

Re: A rebuild is looming; EDIT: Maybe not....bad carb synch?

Well, shoot....it's all back together now. Anyone have a pic of that window so I know what I'm looking at next time?
Doesn't really matter, as there's nothing you can do about it other than replace cam chain, right?

Are there any other cam chain adjustment tricks?
