Re: GM HEI: Cheap and Extremely Effective Ignition Upgrade

Just wanted to update my previous post for the record. After the upgrade to the GM HEI ignition, I started out getting 44 mpg, then 42, then 40 etc. My last tank was 36 mpg. Today I pulled the plugs. There was a burn line on the underside of the ground electrode, so I knew what I was dealing with. T...

Re: Losing power at high RPM - Resolved

Glad you found the problem. Made me think, because I've always had the same issue and no matter what I've tried, can't find the solution. I even did the GM HEI ignition upgrade, which i'm glad I did, but it didn't solve this problem. When you say carb vent tubes, do you mean the T tubes that some of...

Re: GM HEI: Cheap and Extremely Effective Ignition Upgrade

Hello everyone, Many thanks to everyone for all the input about the HEI ignition upgrade. I was able to successfully build the system and did a 55-mile test drive today. The bike runs incredibly better and smoother. Unfortunately I'm still getting in the 30's on gas mileage which is about where I wa...

Re: New here check out my cb650c

Did you happen to do a compression check before you tore it down? If all 4 were near 135-140 you probably won't benefit much from doing the rings. Mine were all around that range dry, and jumped up to 180 when I shot a tablespoon of oil in the cylinder and ran the test again. You should be able to g...

Re: New Guy from uk.

It might help to really clean certain electrical connections--especially the CDI connections, the kill switch, and in the headlight bucket the black and black/white stripe wires coming from the kill switch. You could also shoot just a little starter fluid in the air intake to get a better start for ...

Re: My 1980 CB750C Project

Nice work! Just out of curiosity, are most of the repairs similar to the 650 from the same time period? I like the exhaust--what kind are they? There's an 82 CB750 for sale at Willie's Cycle that I might try to get, doesn't run but looks in good shape. How's the performance compared to the 650? Woul...

Re: 81 Honda CB650 C Introduction

I know this is supposed to be an introduction topic, but while we're on the subject of the advancer--I noticed another side benefit today of getting it freed up. Before, my idle speed would be different at every stop light, anywhere from 1100-1500rpm. Now it settles right down to where it's supposed...

Re: 81 Honda CB650 C Introduction

Thanks for the thumbs up. Now that its running better I can begin to concentrate on polishing chrome and cleaning it up more. The Cosky manual referenced on this site has part of a page on the advancer. It's under "Electrics"--Ignition, p 17-5. I took it off the bike after turning the cran...

81 Honda CB650 C Introduction

http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w411/d_rembold/81HondaCB650c_zps2e6e7dfb.jpg This is my daily ride which I bought about a year ago. It barely ran when I first got it. It has a spitfire windshield and throw-over saddle bags now, and I've put almost 5,000 miles on it (started at 9,652 mi.). I'm r...
