Re: Wrong Head - Son of a #*&! - Offset Carb boots or start
I did the same thing! Frustrating as hell. I ended up reselling the head on eBay and getting another one. Sorry I can't help, but wanted you to know you weren't alone. BTW - the carbs that would fit that head are slide carbs. Much better response than the cv carbs, but a bit tougher on the wrist. So...

So if your plugs do not indicate that you are too lean, I see no need for further experiments and everything should be fine for you with the cover off.
Sweet. Thanks! I will keep it as is and report back any problems.

It's about 42-46 consistently and I ride the bike hard. No easy take-offs here.

Air Filter Cover Question
Hi Folks, I recently noticed that my 1980 CB650 bogs down at about 7-8k rpm. I removed the air filter cover (left in the filter and secured with washers) and took it for a ride today and what a difference. Pulled hard all the way to red line. Seemed to pull MUCH better through the RPM range. I don't...

Valve Cover Gaskets (Adjuster Cover)
Any one else have weepy covers? I have 2 sets of gaskets, one original and one after market but newer. The way I understand it, the valve covers get tightened until they bottom out since they have a spacer. If I do that with the after market gaskets, the get crushed and rip and leak. With the origin...

Re: Cam chain tensioner same through 79-81 right?
They should be the same...they were for my 1980 and 1982.
Sounds like something isn't lining up correctly. If it is not in the groove when you line up the bolt with the hole (too high), might be the jug isn't seated all the way.

Re: Another fork question...
Just wanted to update: The answer (so far) is yes, you can run the lower part of the forks from a 1980 CB650C with the fork tubes off a CB650 Standard (1982). The collar needed to come off the fork tubes to get them to fit in the forks lowers, but they work great. I can even use the air system and n...

Another fork question...
Hi all, I have a 1980 Custom and I picked up a 82 standard as a parts bike. I was going to do a swap of the forks to lower the front a bit for a better stance. However, I noticed that the bottom of the 82 standard forks are a little longer than the 80 custom by 1/4". Also, the fork brace mounts...

Re: carburetor differance
I just changed out my 1980 piston carbs with cv's from a 1982. I will tell you that you will have to change the head (already mentioned), but you will need to change the airbox as well since at high RPM's, the vacuum from the airbox helps pull in fuel to the bowls via a hose (connects to the bowl ve...

Re: throttle cables interchangability
My cables from a 1980 did NOT fit on 1982 carbs. I had to order a set.

Losing power at high RPM - Resolved
Hey everyone. I've been having issues with losing power at RPM ever since I put 1982 carbs in my 1980. I found the issue and thought I would share in case it helps someone else. I have been searching these forums for days trying to find the issue, but I couldn't find this fix anywhere. So I replaced...

Parting out 1982 CB650 Standard
Hi everyone. I am parting out a 1982 CB650 Std. I have a 1980 Custom and I wanted the wheels and 4into1 from the 82. The bike had been sitting in a garage for 9 years. The previous owner tried to get it running again without success. The odometer reads about 6k. The tank is red, but has a few leaks....

Re: PD50 Carb Vents Vacuum Leak
So the bike is running pretty well. I did check the float levels and they are all good. I am still hearing air getting sucked in the vent tubes...Without a frame of reference or access to another bike, i cant check to see if this is normal. Would someone know if it is normal for the vent tubes to su...
