Re: Speed/RPM Question
Darn good point. Ill do it and post what I have. Maybe some of you have a combo that works good for you. Im about 250lbs, so I need more power than speed, but maybe I can hit a happy medium. Maybe I need a bigger cruiser

Re: Speed/RPM Question
Thanks very much guys. I appreciate your responses without my stating what sprockets, tire/ rim size I am running. I am pretty sure everything is stock. I guess I just have to get used to the high RPM's or change sprockets. I find it really weird that they geared this bike so low with an engine that...

Speed/RPM Question
Hi Guys, I just finished getting my 1980CB 650c running well, but something is bugging me. I really feels like it needs at least another gear. In 5th, I am turning around 3,000 RPM at 45mph. Is this normal? Can anyone tell me about what the correct RPM/MPH should be for each gear? Like what RPM shou...

Re: horrible timing chain question
I am trying to send you the directions for how to install the camshaft, from the real service manual, but I cannot add attachments for some reason. Hopefully the Administrator will see this and allow attachments on my account.

Re: 79' cb650 carbs
I have a nearly complete set of carbs for a 1980 CB650c that are disassembled and cleaned. PD50A's, but I do not understand your logic in not replacing the rubber in yours. If you think about it, all of the old sets of carbs are going to have old rubber which needs to be replaced after 30 some years...

Re: Acceleration not what it should be.
Your suspicion is probably correct. Fuel Starved. You said that the inside of your tank was acid washed. Then what? 1. Your tank needs to be acid etched then sealed. 2. Your in tank filter needs to be replaced. I installed a brass K&N Inline filter (Thats about the only one that would fit) 3. I ...

Re: High idle problem
Assuming you timed the cam properly to the crank on assembly, and timed your engine, If your idle stop screw is backed all the way out, and it is still revving high it is probably your pilot jets. Turn them in to light stop, and back out 1.5 turns, then see how she runs. The butterflies in the throa...

Great Pictures. What are you going to do about those cam journals? They aint lookin too good. By the way, if anyone needs some tight shots of the carb linkage re the choke shafts let me know, I took some tight shots before I took mine apart for dipping. Cheers.

Re: CB650C Project from P. I. Needs help of a brethren..
Thanks Guys. Yeah, there has to be return holes to the sump near and below the seat of the valve springs. The fact the journals are simply line bored in the aluminum head gives me the willies. There should have been Babbitt bearings, but I guess thats how they saved money on these. These pictures sh...

Re: CB650C Project from P. I. Needs help of a brethren..
This oil flow thing has been bugging me. I looked at the section through the engines pressure lubrication chart and I see that the oil galleries in question (Red Arrows, last post) are sumps into which the camshaft lobes dip lubricate. The oil that lubricates the cam journals under pressure flows in...

Re: CB650C Project from P. I. Needs help of a brethren..
Thanks for the great photo, again. Maybe I am wrong, and one of you guys can enlighten me, but if you look at the photo right under "As you wish" you will note a drain hole for oil to return to the sump in the far right gallery. I do not see a similar drain hole in the second gallery from ...

Re: CB650C Project from P. I. Needs help of a brethren..
Can you show a couple of top photos of the head where the cam sits? I took my head off several years ago (My engine that is) and noticed something in the casting that I think was causing a lack of lubrication to one of the journals. I posted this several years ago, but I forget what it actually was ...
