Re: Non running 1979 CB650 carburetor problems (first bike)
...it''s almost like the slow jets are clogged. Do you think ......what have I been saying???? Do you guys read what people write? Look, myself and people like me don't write to see ourselves in print. At least I don't. I am trying to help people out, share my experiences and knowledge. I even will...

Re: Non running 1979 CB650 carburetor problems (first bike)
The jets come out easily and you really need to get them out to clean properly. I didn't remove them the first time and dunked the carbs for 24 hours and it didn't do anything to clean them as I found when I pulled them. I am sure yours will be the same. Use a pair of pliers but tape the jaws so the...

Re: Non running 1979 CB650 carburetor problems (first bike)
At this point it turns over and has oil pressure but isn't igniting any fuel. I figure I'll check and clean the plugs and maybe check for compression if I can track down some gauges. Please have a look at my recent posts. Despite 3 deep cleanings to date I still can not get #3 &4 carbs to fire....

Carbs...these ones: http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r239/spyug/100_1975_zpsd731b71b.jpg Well the plot does thicken as I think I am back to a carb problem again. Before adjusting the valves, I was able find my misplaced compression tester and did a check of each cylinder. Imagine my surprise to fi...

Re: Broken Carbs, advice please
I agree with Folsoml. The spring is there. Here is another pic in which you can see how it aligns: http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r239/spyug/choke%20linkage_zps5obxecc7.jpg I think the previous owner may have added the zip ties to compensate for a weak spring. It shouldn't be needed. I think you...

Re: S. I and R. part 2
Well thanks for the replies guys. as far as I know this bike is bone stock but there could be confusion as the actual model year may not be correctly shown in the paperwork although the sticker on the head shows it as an 81. that begs a question as well. Did they use a metallic sticker to record the...

Re: S. I and R. part 2
Thanks for the reply Volker. The plug wiring is correct and the synchronizing of slides and chokes is correct too. Strictly speaking, the slides should not affect starting as the throttle is not touched. And while the choke butterflies move correctly there is still no combustion in either cylinder. ...

S. I and R. part 2
Or what is going on  So after 3 deep cleanings, I fear I am no closer to getting these carbs to work correctly. I believe they are pretty damn near spotless after their good soakings are fitted with fresh orings and air mixture screws set to 2 turns out. While I can start the bike on full cho...

Re: Starting, idling and running .
Well Volker is correct in that if the tank is not clean then you will repeat this exercise very soon after getting your. cleaned carbs back on. On this subject, I find you can never truly "clean" a tank as residual rust tends to sit in the welded seams around the bottom of the tank. There ...

Starting, idling and running .
In the last few weeks I have noticed several threads concerning the titled issues. I, myself am experiencing problems getting the bike to start and idle without choke. I know why. Basically, the carbs are dirty.........very dirty. As I have mentioned before, I have vast experience with carbs of all ...

Re: Problem at high rpms?
One of the other things that can cause this is a partially plugged filter in the tank or an inline fuel filter if it is undersized. No problem running at idle or mid throttle but as fuel demand goes up with opening throttle, gas cannot keep up. Check tank filter and remove inline filter if fitted. G...

Re: Caliper rebuild kit
I'll be interested to see how the innards look. Especially the pistons. SS lines are a great idea and is the first "mod" I do to any new to me bike. It makes braking a whole new experience and two finger stops are easy and more comfortable I find. Sounds like you will need to watch out for...

Re: Caliper rebuild kit
In my experience (rebuilding 11 or 12 sets in the last 10 seasons) seals seldom fail. You are more likely to experience "frozen" pistons or at least pitted pistons and a build up of rust in the bore. Like this bore: http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r239/spyug/cal2.jpg As you may know, hy...

Re: Rebuilt carbs and other stuff, need help fine tuning
Glad you got it sorted. Sounds like you need a new petcock filter screen and possibly an inline filter. Even when the tank is "clean" it is really not: http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r239/spyug/fuel2.jpg The tank looked rust free but this was what floated into the carbs. the only sure ...
