Re: What happens when the OKI CDI goes bad?

I have downloaded the manual, thanks. I think it's carbs too, but I sure don't know what. I'd guess floats, but they're not adjustable. Flow is good, carbs went through the ultrasonic cleaner till nothing at all was coming out of air or fuel passageways. Since I had done what seemed to be everything...

Plugs are white. Not tan, white.

Re: What happens when the OKI CDI goes bad?

Me too, I agree. I can clean carbs but I'm not a tuner. I'll have to pull the carbs again anyway, and then I can check the main jet number. I don't see how too big could cause this (see? I don't know how to tune carbs), but if that's what was wrong with yours, I bet I have the same issue. Thanks for...

Re: What happens when the OKI CDI goes bad?

Good. The CDI on the Honda CX500s I've rebuilt can go bad an not allow the bike to rev high. I was hoping that wasn't the case here.

Re: best material for cleaning heavily rusted parts ?

Good old CLR from any big-box store or home improvement store will work great. CLR is Calcium, Lime and Rust remover. I use mine in an ulstrasonic cleaner, but you can just use a plastic cup too. Maybe set it on the washing machine during the spin cycle. :D You would not believe the difficulty I had...

Re: Right switch removal - help

Yes, you'd do better to loosen the handlebars. Putting the cables ends back on the carbs while they're installed can be challenging and will likely double your vocabulary of curse words.

Re: master cylinders

Yes, if the bore is the same (or nearly), you can use a different master. You just need to take into account the angle of the master cylinder (some are sloped to fit different handlebars while keeping the fluid level under the cap), and the levers and brake light switches may change with the master....

What happens when the OKI CDI goes bad?

I did a search and couldn't find anything. Mine aren't gooey but (as most of you probably already know), the bike starts fine, idles fine, pulls like a freight train all the way to 5.5k RPMs, where it begins to miss and/or bog, and will not go more than 55 mph in any gear. When in neutral, it revs a...

Re: Missing or Bogging at High RPMs

Also, when going through the ignition, I saw that the battery drain tube had slipped off and started to rust, so I pulled the battery to clean all that up and route the drain properly. The positive lead was corroded down into the clamp, so I pried it away and re-soldered it clean. Of course that mad...

Re: Missing or Bogging at High RPMs

I got the replacement shaft. Thanks so much CB650!!! Obviously can't start the bike, likely have to yank carbs again. But the plugs are WHITE. I don't see anything wrong with the ignition anywhere, and I would have to borrow a timing light to go any further. I understand that when doing a plug chop ...

Re: Missing or Bogging at High RPMs

Since running without a cover on the air filter made absolutely no difference, that was why I began going through the ignition system.

The bolts and screws have all been boogered up with someone messing around, so it makes sense to go back and ensure that everything's up to spec.
