Re: Stuck Stator Bolt

Thank you Folsoml,

This is useful tip. I will try to block my back wheel through the spokes. Also I am thinking of getting some PB Blaster. I heard good things about it and could not hurt to spay some around that bolt. At least I know which way to turn the bolt now.

Thanks,
Olivier

Stuck Stator Bolt

Hello all, I am trying to get my stator out to fix the burnt-out alternator/rectifier connection, but my center bolt won't budge. I have assumed it is a lefty loosey, and I have tried extension pipe on my rachet, electric impact driver, and even manual impact driver, but no go. I have taken it out b...

Re: No warm start

Hi, I have another idea / suspicion I want to run by you. I am suspecting that the starter is not getting enough juice - it sounds like it, as if the battery was dead (but the battery is brand new, purchased 2 weeks ago). I noticed that the main wire going from the starter to the battery negative po...

Re: No warm start

Hello all, I wanted to post an update to my no warm-start issue. I have finally purchased a new battery and installed it. It makes a good difference in a lot of area such as cold start - although I never had too much problem there. However, my no warm-start is still occurring :( After about 15 minut...

Re: No warm start

Great, thanks guys. Volker, your explanation is clear and makes sense to me, thank you. I will test for resistance on the battery - starter wire. Also, my starter relay is the original one (with the bone style fuse) and I suspect it to be fairly corroded on the inside (I have cleaned the outside con...

Re: No warm start

Hi Volker, Thank you for the quick reply. Indeed, i suspect the weak battery as well. Although yesterday I went on a 20 minutes ride, and I brought along an extra battery, just off the tender so ~13 volts. Sure enough, after the 20 minutes, the bike would not start, so I put in the other battery tha...

No warm start

Hello all, I have been having a recurring issue with my '84 (18,300 miles). After riding for a short time - maybe 15 minutes - I am not able to start the bike, as if the battery has not enough juice left. I have to wait out 20-30 minutes for the bike to cool off, then it starts fine. I have read oth...

Re: Weak Sparks, No start on '84

Volker, all, The bike runs! :D I have cleaned and bench synced the carbs yesterday, put back and adjusted choke and throttle cables... The bike started without much choke if any, better response in 2nd gear, idles at ~1,100 RPM. I am a happy camper! 8) Thank you all for all your suggestions and enco...

Re: Weak Sparks, No start on '84

Update : So I went to test my RR again today, and after putting in a battery before doing anything, the bike started right away, again using the method described by Volker. I do not know why the bike failed to start before, and even yesterday with two fresh batteries, but it did today. Gremlins ind...

Re: Weak Sparks, No start on '84

I am still struggling with this... I have read many times on forums that RR would not power the CDI. However, on my electrical diagram here: '83-'85 Colorized Wiring Diagram , when I trace back the B/W wire from the CDI to the Kill switch, it then connects with the Bl wire that goes straight ...

Re: Weak Sparks, No start on '84

Hi Volker, MEhall, Thanks again for your help. I tried to start with two fully charged batteries in parallel today. No go  When the battery showed 13.5 volts, the voltage at the CDI was down to 10.7 volts. I tried Volker's cold start method (5 twists of throttle before pushing the starter) and ...

Re: Weak Sparks, No start on '84

Ah, thank you Volker for this info, that makes sense  . I am planing on trying to start the bike with the 2 batteries in parallel tomorrow, so I'll keep you posted. In the meantime, anyone has good feedback/comments about adding a coil relay as a mod? I am not fond of mods and usually like ori...

My 1984 CB650

Hello, I am new to the forum, so I wanted to share a couple of photographs of my '84, before and after I bought it. It has 17,700 miles on it currently. Before: https://dl-web.dropbox.com/get/honda%20cb650/PHOTOS/IMG_0916%20small.JPG?_subject_uid=2890640&w=AAAd4GzcXABbUapHChMxqmcSfrG8C44JeEgKmmR...

Re: Weak Sparks, No start on '84

Thanks for shedding some light Volker. I do not have a stand switch but might be routed there so we have the option to add one. Yeah, my push throttle cable was so tight (I tried to adjust it) that it was creating too much friction at the carburetor throttle cable connections, so that my throttle re...

Re: wiring harness photos

Hello there! I do not have any pictures showing the path of the wires, and on my bike most wires are under some sort of conduit or wrapped in tape so it is actually difficult to know what wire is which unless I open everything; I do plan on replacing old conduit sometimes soon. I have been using thi...
