Re: Cam sprocket index marks on 1979 model?

Compared to CV/VA carbs, the piston/PD carbs are quite sensitive to the air side. A 1979 could have carbs with still the cutoff diaphragms. People here reported that the bike may run somehow but bad if they are gone (see e.g. http://www.hondacb650.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=722) The air cutoff dia...

Cam sprocket index marks on 1979 model?

I have done head gasket replacement on 2 seperate 1981 models in the past and I distinctly remember two punch marks at the 3 and 9 o'clock position of the sprocket - I'm doing the same service on a 1979 model now and I don't see the marks. The motorcycle is not running properly and will not idle (ru...

Re: 1979 cb650 Cylinder #1 not running

Some news: I found a slight cut on the yellow wire going to the right coil which I taped up. Some data: Ignition coil readings (same readings for both coils tested individually): between small blades going to wiring harness 2.5 ohm between plug cables 12.28k ohm Plug Caps (not sure which reading bel...

1979 cb650 Cylinder #1 not running

I'm looking for some opinions on where to go next with this one! https://imgur.com/5T1AvmP Found this old '79 in a shed about an hour and half away from home. The old guy was able to get it started but only with the choke halfway out and it sounded horrible, unable to idle and died as soon as the ch...

Re: Strange headlight problem

Update - It was the switch, or more specifically the little square copper piece inside the switch that brings the source (blue/white) to the white or blue wires.

Strange headlight problem

Hello everyone! I have a 1979 cb650 with a dead headlight problem. I'm already ruled out the bulb itself, so I got to checking this wiring diagram for the answer https://imgur.com/a/6RPUmiZ https://imgur.com/a/6RPUmiZ I decided to follow the path of the power starting from the ignition switch to the...

Re: Dead on cylinder #1

Compression test showed zero on cyl#1. Opened valve cover, turned engine over, 140 psi. I found the problem... There are two bolt sizes for the outer valve covers. I put the long one in where the short bolt should have gone. This bolt interfered with one of the valves on cylinder #1... Pretty embara...

Re: Dead on cylinder #1

Camshaft timing would affect all four cylinders and it won't run nicely if you get it started at all. So probably all right. What about valve settings? The hose shows a cracked T-vent , Please also have a look what I wrote in the very similar problem in the 1981 CB650 #1 Cylinder not firing thread....

I do not have a compression tester currently :(

The hose in the picture seems to attach to the airbox. Is this something I must replace in order for the bike to run properly? I imagine so, but I wonder where I'm going to find it

Re: Dead on cylinder #1

Took the carbs off, I may have found the cause.

further observations:

Airbox boots are wet, #3 cylinder boot wasn't properly fitted on the carb.

Dead on cylinder #1

Hello people! I just finished a head gasket replacement on a cb650. I seem to have a dead cylinder (#1) now. When I pull the boot off of the spark plug, the bike idles no differently. If I remove the spark plug for cylinder #1 and ground it, it makes good spark. The bike runs, but sputters out of th...

You obviously found a way to put three fuses into four fuse clamps without having anything not fused any more.

Front suspension air uni-line installation??

Gentlemen! Here is my situation: http://i.imgur.com/T9V497L.jpg I had to remove the right front shock on my CB650 -- I had to twist the air line that goes between the left and right shock to get it off, and it was awful, incredibly difficult. Is there a trick to installing this without twisting the ...
