Quick update all - I've decided I want to at least try to start the engine before I split the cases - that way I know I've put everything back together to the same or better :-). I tried bridging the solenoid terminals with 1) the original battery, 2) while jumped to a non-running car batter, and 3)...

Hi guys, I just picked up a 1979 CB650. The engine and it's history are iffy (see my other post), so I was looking for spare engines online. I found one for $200 but it had a previously blown head gasket. Is this crazy? Should I stay away? Or are there enough salvageable parts despite the blown head...
