Jumping from 1500 to 3500 as it warms up just after a start up seems pretty normal. You can adjust the fast idle cam and that way lower the rpm when you are using the choke, but if you lower it too much the engine will choke itself and stall just after it has been started with full choke, especially...

I think the spring is connected to the fast idle cam for the choke mechanism:

Thanks Volker. 8) And no, I haven't taken the old one off yet. It's too cold for wrenching right now. And I have searched trough the parts lists and this is what I found: Timing advancer parts # for the 1979-1980 650Z US and European model: 30220-426-174 (replaces 30220-426-164) " " "...

I must admit, the model number didn't occur to me as an explanation. I have seen the model type stamped on Kawasaki advancers though. Like KZ750 and KZ400 for their 70's twins. And the reason for this is that the advance curve are very different for these two models. So if Honda stamped the timing a...

Ingition advancer

The ignition advancer on my 650 have been neglected by the previous owner(s), I suspect it must have been rusty, and it is rattling at idle due to wear. Also the springs for the counterweights are too weak, causing the ignition to advance a little too early. I have bought a replacement advancer, it ...

The CV carbs will not fit the cylinder head for the mechanical carbs. The spacing between the carbs are different, so you will need the cylinder head as well.

The first thing that came to my mind is the 500/550 rods. What's different on the CB500/550 engine, the length of the rods or the crankshaft itself? And what about the rod journal diameter?

I agree with Volker. And synchronizing the carbs should be the final part of the tuning. The air filter, float levels, cam chain. valves, spark plugs and ignition has to be adjusted and in good working order before you do the synch. What you can expect from a carb synch is that the engine will be ru...

Pinhead, this is the Honda workshop manual for the 1979 US model.

Jason, you have done a great job scanning that manual. 8) However I noticed that Ch2 and Ch7 are permanently damaged files and won't open.
