Re: Carb clean; accel pump

You can soak in carb cleaner for a few days and hopefully it will eat away everything but the metal. Ultrasonic cleaners are a good option if you can find a restoration place that uses them. You might have some luck with the freeze-out style anti seize sprays. If you can get the cover cold enough it...

Re: Fixing the infamous 'right above the exhaust' leak

I'd say 43 is the OD and 3 is the thickness. You'd need calipers to get the ID. I just went to the honda dealer and ordered one. That was a year or two ago but I'd bet they still have it.

Re: Odd problem

You do have the air box on the bike when you try to start it, right? The choke won't block enough air on its own. You could try blocking off the intakes with a sheet of something and just letting in a little air to get it to fire. The coils need to be hooked up a certain way too. If they are backwar...

Re: Right gasket set but different head gasket.

Hmm, I think the head bolts should be in the same spot for every engine in a cb500, cb550, cb650. The bores are all different so head gaskets aren't really interchangeable and the castings don't all line up seamlessly. But the point i'm getting at is the gasket sounds faulty if holes clearly miss th...

Re: CB650C 1980 rich plugs need help

If you ride with spare plugs and a socket set it shouldn't ruin the bike. It just runs a little dirty. Going too lean can heat up and cause more problems from what I understand. Im running d7ea plugs and can get 5000km or so with no problems. Did have one or two fail on me eventually. I use premium ...

Re: Odd problem

The engine turns over fine by hand? I know my manual has misleading information on setting the valves, there is a little chart that shows the exhaust settings on bottom. When you stand over the bike the exhaust is on top. I've also dealt with the timing being off on the cam shaft. Make sure it's rig...

Re: charging system

You could just run some new wires to replace the yellow ones. I didn't notice the year in your post but generally the stator puts out 3 AC signals on 3 yellow wires. IIRC you need silicone jacket wires and stake-ons/crimp on connectors to make the connections to the current devices(soldering isn't a...

Re: 1981 CB650 A pilot jet size??

Not sure on size off the top of my head. It would be specific to your exhaust though. 4 to 2 should be one size, 4 to 4 another. I think 4 to 4 is the largest one.

Re: Help, starter went out.

You can get yours rebuilt at a motor shop. Might just be the brushes. I suspect they are under the screws/plugs on the side.

Re: Floats will not seat

I assume the floats are in the right way? It seems odd they won't even close like they did from the factory. They might be different heights but they should close on the bench when you are assembling them.

Re: No turning back...

If you strip it down to the frame you can try to run strings around the headtube, through the frame, and hook them both on the rear dropouts in identical ways. This should give you something to get rough measurements off of. I'd say your fork stops are bent at least. It looks like you need a whole b...

Re: need a little help with these

Around here I'd expect to pay $1000 to $2000 for the pair. This is assuming that there is a fully assembled running bike and a mostly assembled parts bike. If you have the tools and know how to get both running well they'd be worth $1500 each when you're done.(again, in my area) If you plan to pay p...

Re: Front Brake Rebuild

I just blast the circlip with wd40 and let it sit for a while. Then if you have a sharp nail or pointy prying tool you can work each end a bit looser by prying it out of it's groove. I also try to chip away as much rust as possible. My circlip pliers were not very helpful.(possibly because i have a ...

Re: My bike makes terrible hammering sound when idling

For anyone skipping the video it's a 1981/82 engine... 1979 frame maybe, I'd say check the valves just for gits and shiggles. Hopefully that was part of the head gasket replacement though. I assume you lined up the timing and everything on reassembly. There is a very detailed article you can find wi...
