Re: Shocks Stick after fall
So I pulled the rear shocks off, lifted and moved the swingarm around. The new shocks look bent. I mean, clearly bent. The damper rods on each side are cricked so that the piston rod comes out of the damper angled a bit to the right. Is it possible these shocks were straight and I bent them by using...

Shocks Stick after fall
SO... this is baffling me to the core. Last Saturday I left my side stand down and the first left I attempted to take sent me down. Snapped clutch lever, muffler ding and a bruised knee is all I got, or so I thought. The next day I'm doing some inspections and notice my springs arent decompressing a...

83 Honda 650 progressive suspension spacer
What length spacer should I start with after I install my springs? I believe the spacer that's in there now is around 2.5" long. Should I just start there and adjust as necessary or cut it down some? I'm 5'10" 160 lbs. Anyone use these springs on this bike with good results? Have any space...

Re: Rebuilt Starter, brushes disintegrated a second time
So before I out everything together after the rebuild, I used a rag and some spray cleaner to clean the commutator. I did not "polish" them. I let the armature dry over night though I guess some of the cleaner could have left a residue. I've since been notified it's a good idea to sand and...

Rebuilt Starter, brushes disintegrated a second time
So last week, my starter went out. Big deal, probably never been rebuilt. So I rebuild it and the bike starts right up. Works flawlessly for 3 days. Today I can't get her started and fucken a if my brushes have disintegrated a second time. The little blocks that contact the armature are completely g...

Re: Size of steering stem nut
Never mind. I found a convo we had a few weeks ago about this exact same thing. Hodor! Thanks bro. Edit: it would be nice to get confirmation on the size of the stem nut though. I can't find a 30x32 locknut only one or the other. I'd rather not spend 80 dollars on two if I can just buy one and be do...

Re: Size of steering stem nut
I'm looking for the tool to remove the nut. It's a specialized Honda tool I guess. People grind down ratchets in order to make them.

Size of steering stem nut
Anyone happen to know the part number for the 83 650 steering stem locknut? It's the one with the four prongs to loosen and tighten the steering stem bearings. Also, could the same tool be used for the seingarm? Thanks.

Re: 83 650 steering stem
I do not have an angle grinder. I could probably score a file from my dad but what's 25 bucks on a socket? If it'll save me 2 hours of grinding. I would definitely "make" one if I could but it's just not feasible at this point in time. Are those the correct dimensions of the socket I'm loo...

Re: 83 650 steering stem
Thank you. What is that type of ratchet called and do you have any idea what size it would be?

83 650 steering stem
So I've got a feeling my wobble comes from a loose stem bearing. My question is what bolt am I tightening here? The one in the top of the triple tree? It's just underneath the middle of the handlebars. Or is there a different bolt I need to be tightening? I believe it's a 32mm nut. I believe I'm tal...

Re: 83 Tach Woes
Any idea where to start? Would the majority of the wiring be behind the headlight or under the seat? It must hook into a harness somewhere to get power. Would it be one of the bullet connectors or a part of a harness?

83 Tach Woes
So, last week my tach magically worked for two days straight. I loved being able to see my revs It also helped me better judge what rpm I was at. It has since stopped working again (I bought the bike with it not working so nothing surprising). The gauge cluster I have is the rectangular one that I b...

Re: Karben's 83 Nighthawk thread
I have not. I also really want to drain and refill my final drive oil. Is a cam chain adjustment fairly straight forward? I have the Clymer manual on my phone I'm sure theres something in there. I'll take a peek.

Re: Karben's 83 Nighthawk thread
So I've begun noticing a kind of clicking noise while riding. It almost sounds like a mountain bike chain does when you're just coasting and/or back peddaling... It only occurs when I'm in gear. If I engage clutch or go into a neutral and roll, nothing. It sounds like its originating from the front ...
