Re: Replacing 81 CB650 Carbs with 82 CB650SC Nighthawk Carbs
@cb650 thank you for all your help! Update: I successfully cleaned and rejet the 82 CB650SC carbs with 120s and installed on my 81 CB650 Std. I even ground the pilot screw 'stops' down as @cb650 noted so I may adjust them on the fly. She vacuum sync'd perfectly today. Aside from conditioning complic...

Re: Replacing 81 CB650 Carbs with 82 CB650SC Nighthawk Carbs
Very much unremovable. They're pure evil. I've had them on my bench 3x trying to clean through the slows and the 90° angle that follow them, without success. I could not get water to run through them consistently. I'm all for working with what I have, but finding an inexpensive 82 rack was pr...

Re: Replacing 81 CB650 Carbs with 82 CB650SC Nighthawk Carbs
Thanks @cb650 for the quick response! Factory jets on the standard are 120 and 118 on the SC. Would you mind educating me as to why I should size up? Thanks!

Replacing 81 CB650 Carbs with 82 CB650SC Nighthawk Carbs
To diminish the hell that is 81's pressed slow jet anti-mod carbs, I've chosen to replace with the emission fearless 82s. I found a rack off of an 82 CB650SC Nighthawk thinking they were exact. For the most part, they are, however research shows the main jets are a size down smaller! 81-82 CB650 - #...

Re: Putting an early 70s CB750 tank on my '81 650
Hocus82 and folks, I'm so sorry for not updating. It was very generous to put in findings for me. I ended up keeping my original tank. Oddly enough, the teardrop tank actually looked great with my bratstyle build, so I kept it. I haven't seen many bikes like this work with this build so had to run w...

1981 CB650 Pilot Screws Adjustments
Carbs on this model can be a headache. You already have pressed recessed slow jets making cleaning hell. So perhaps anything helps us unfortunate carb owners. Most of my trouble was in finding answers online, so I thought it would be nice to contribute pilot adjustments to help perfect your mixtures...

Re: Erratic stuttering, 1sec leak-out hiss noise, no idle...
Did you check the valves? I was having some engine troubles and just readjusted mine after 4000k. Seems to start up and run a lot smoother now. I'm pretty new as well and the hiss sound means nothing to me. If you go through everything and set it all up correctly then it should work well though, ri...

My 1981 CB650 is still acting up, boggling some of the best wrenchers I've met. I didn't get any help on my last outdated post so I deleted it. I have fixed some probs but unfortunately have more odd problems. She is still down for the count. Here are the probs, starting with the strangest... - In 1...

Delayed acceleration (getting whiplash)
Hi! I have a 1981 CB650 with 8k miles (yeah, no typo) It has a big delay in acceleration. At first, from stop, it feels like it's missing power when accelerating, then vroom! Here's some bullet points: • In any gear, when I accelerate, the RPMs rise a bit, but after about 2 seconds of acceleration, ...

Re: Putting an early 70s CB750 tank on my '81 650
Thank you so much for testing this! I too like that it's short and stubby. It will play well with how I'm simplifying the 3tree and my flat seat can move up a bit, not hanging over the rear wheel as much. It appears to be a success and thanks again! You mentioned either create the spacer for the mou...

Putting an early 70s CB750 tank on my '81 650
I'd like replace the tank on my '81 CB650 with an older CB750 tank, '71-'76. Should be a 73/74. I've asked and they don't know the year or style. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=171675491734 I'm thinking it's a K. Anyone know if it will fit? I'm comfortable with modifyin...
