Re: Spare Change Project First Bike

Hi Dads Toy and welcome. First I'd just like to say if those tires have cracks then change them before you ride it again. Next I'd like to say you've done an excellent job of turning that pile of dust into a working motorcycle again :D

Re: Speedo compatibility

I understand now, you are customizing, I thought perhaps you were struggling to find a replacement. I agree about the pressed on lips, nightmare to repair these clocks. I have a few spares with poor paint and I don't like the idea of having to strip them just to get some decent paint on them.

Re: Throttle butterflies dont retract?

I would most definitely avoid using any of the brass parts from a carb rebuild kit as they seem to cause more problems than they cure. Just make sure that if your original jets are still usable that you get them nice and clean first. If your plugs are a light tan/brown colour then that is fine. EDIT...

Re: Speedo compatibility

Why not just get a direct replacement for the one on your bike to eliminate any compatibility issues?

Re: Throttle butterflies dont retract?

Well in that case I would say that your mixture is too rich, if your valve stem seals had failed your plugs would be oil fouled.

Re: Throttle butterflies dont retract?

Hi WT, when you say the plugs keep fouling can you tell us if they are fouling with oil? Does the bike smoke on start up but clear up after being ridden a while? If any of these answers are yes then I would suspect your cylinder head valve stem seals.

Re: need easier way to remove seat to access battery

As I've never actually ridden my Nighthawk it's not a problem I've come across, I've got so much other stuff to do before I can even think about starting on it. :( Which is kind of odd because out of my three bikes, the Nighthawk is the one I want to ride the most

I just searched both bike specs and these are the first results I came up with so if your mechanic is talking about a different 750 Nighthawk then I do apologize. http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/Honda/honda_cb650sc_nighthawk%2083.htm https://www.totalmotorcycle.com/motorcyclespecshandbook/hon...

Re: New to forum, new to Nighthawks. Howdy...

After listening to the sound on the vid and the movement you describe I could only presume that the big end shell bearing has gone on that cylinder, which would mean splitting the cases. As for the cost of repairs I really wouldn't have a clue  I have only worked on the Honda SOHC engines up t...

Re: New to forum, new to Nighthawks. Howdy...

So cold compression test from left to right facing front of bike. 135, 90, 125, 140. The service limit spec for warm compression test is 156. The piston movement a noticed was on 3 the one that read 125. What do you make of all that @Georgesweety? Hi pd, so it is cylinder number 2 that has the 90 p...

Are you able to do a compression test? I wouldn't write it off yet.

Re: New to forum, new to Nighthawks. Howdy...

I've been racking my brains about a bike that I really had trouble with removing the oil sump, I thought it was a Kawasaki but as I sit down and think about it, it was actually my SOHC Nighthawk when I removed the sump, I did resort to the hammer and wood method. As I recall, it was an absolute PITA...

Re: can anyone recommend a saddlebag setup for my bike?

Hi jj, I suppose a lot depends on what style and which manufacturers panniers you use. Many years ago I borrowed some from a friend for a long trip that were the throw over type, they just had a buckle strap underneath that secured them to the bottom of each rear shock. Never needed any stays and th...
