Re: sand blasting bottom end for first time.
If you are going to blast with soda. Give it a good clean water flush. The soda will dissolve, and wash out. Blasting with glass/oxide will require going over everything with fine detail to make sure all remnants of blasting media is removed. This includes chasing threads, probing oil passages, and ...

The cover that Larry has is a DOHC cover. Probably off the 750 that he has.

About the only oversize pistons that you will find as a kit will be the Dynoman Performance DP674 674cc kit.

The only thing that is the same about the 550/650 frames is the engine mounting.
Rearsets usually require frame modification to remove the rear peg mount. An easy bolt on solution is not likely to exsist for the 650.

Sounds good. Just shoot the pics to me in a pm to keep the post relevant.
I am interested in the side covers also. Gotta see how bad the damage is from the holidays first.

Re: 1981 cb650 custom frame/seat pan question
Take a look at 626's build. A custom seat pan will be needed to achieve the cafe look on the cruiser frame.

Re: Need carbs for 1980 or 1981 CB650
wrong years. 79/80 are mechanical 81/82 are cv's. Head changed. Some one did get them to interchange using different intakes. Old thread. And how to use kawi carbs too in it. That said being 30 plus years engines could have been changed by a PO. I so wish we could get some of the 750 love to rub of...

Re: 79CB650 Cafe Build Noob Build
Can't help much with the front end, but for the rear. Look at the 75-82 CB750F. You will need the complete rear assy (swingarm, wheel, brake) for a basically bolt in rear disc with minor mods for master cylinder mounting. 75-77: spoke wheel 77-78: silver comstar (Not advised, They are very hard to f...

NO FRONT BRAKES! SERIOUSLY!! NO SERIOUS CAFE RIDER WOULD BE STUPID ENOUGH TO RIDE A BIKE WITHOUT A FRONT BRAKE!!! Gotta say the mismatched wheels, and lack of gauges turns me off. But Hey. Its not meant to be seriously ridden either!! I do not normally speak out against how anyone wants to build a ...

Make sure you check the battery cables for any corrosion buildup, and also check resistance for a possible hot short/high resistance when warm. The cable from the solenoid to the starter is a good source for warm start problems,

Re: 82 nighthawk and 83 nighthawk mudguard / fork question
The 82, and 83 nighthawks share the same front axle even though the forks are different (83 was redesigned to include anti-dive, and fork brace). This makes the C-C distance the same on both years. That leaves only the two mounting holes to deal with. Which are easily opened to fit with a round file...
