Re: new engine noise

ok, new development.. Took the wife to town with me the other day, in attempt to see if she is ok with riding. Come to find out she has done it before (more than I had thought) and that she wants us to get a bigger bike ASAP. Still.. When she is on bike with me, the thing rides like silk (seems I ha...

Re: new engine noise

Stationary it does not make this noise, in or out of gear, slipping clutch or not. The only way the noise shows is when the bike has load on it, at about 3k and up to about 6K it gets louder (barely) and faster, then I shift and it slows and goes quiet again, then gets louder til next shift as I aga...

Re: new engine noise

Yes, I have to be moving or the noise disappears. Also, it seems to be about 1 per second at 2500 rpm, and 2 per second at about 4000. If I shift, it goes back or forward based on rpm at that new point. It is very strange.

new engine noise

Hello everyone. I have a new engine noise in the 81 CB 650 C. As posted elsewhere, this bike has suffered some before me, and I have added some pain too but she is again intact. I rode her a lot, daily commuter and short trip bike mostly, and have probably put 1000 miles on her since last cam chain ...

Re: Well, I guess, here we go again!

Mileage is steadily increasing, looks like the carbs got gunky a hair, did 20 mpg, next tank 38, then 41 (personal best to date on this bike I think). Getting there...

Re: 81 CB650c (slo-mo cafe style build)

Holy smoke, that is one SWEET ride! That taillight still needs to move u though. Current placement makes it look like the thing is sliding back and about to fall off.. Is it safe to assume the tank will stay like this? It sure looks great! How is it for light in your eyes on the road at noon? I ask ...

Re: Windjammer fairing question

OK, have an update.. The Windjammer fairing would have fit fine, but I installed a freeway bar to replace by bent caseguard (long and painful story, summarized best as "wreck"), and as the freeway bar is a welded and closed loop, I cannot mount the support bracket for the fairing. So, it i...

on the road again!

Ok, bike is reassembled. Pics will be uploaded soon. I added a Plexifairing 3, and that strange master cylinder. The front brakes bled out well, all the "motor honey" is now out of the lines. I have quite a lot of front brake, though. The things are pretty sensitive, so I must need to get ...

Re: minor (I hope) problem with front tire

The bump may result from a deformation of the carcass from standing flat for a time. Depending on time and material, it might be reversible or not. This is independent of possible uneven sitting on the rim. In most cases you voluntarily like to swap a bumping front tire before it becomes close to s...

Re: minor (I hope) problem with front tire

Well, I aired it overly this morning, and I then ran water over both sides, and saw the bubbles coming up from the bead on the left side of the tire in one place. I gave it more air, and then sat on the bike and bounced a bit a few times, then another shot of air, more water to get bubbles, and it l...

Re: minor (I hope) problem with front tire

 You may pump it up to temporarily 4bars to make sure it gets seatet properly again. This is what the tire shops do, too (yes, it is that simple). Second problem is a possible bump. When you go riding (of course not with the 4bars any more!), it will become clear if you still have a bump in the...

Re: minor (I hope) problem with front tire

F, that is the odd part. The tire looks like it is perfectly seated still, other than being a little flat on the bottom. I will put some soap on it in the daylight, I was a little reluctant to try it today because it felt like we were going to freeze, and the last thing I wanted was an ice wedge for...

minor (I hope) problem with front tire

I seem to have allowed my motorcycle (CB650C 1981) to sit a moment too long, and the front tire went flat. I aired it up, but now it does not seem to want to hold air very well. I don't hear any leaking as it airs up, but unless it somehow sealed itself last night (I aired it up again) it seems it m...

figured out the headlight issue.

I feel like such a moron. I looked into my growing box of spare parts, and lo, there were the two spacers that hold the headlight. I cannot believe I did not remember they were in there... Thinking back I remember taking them off the old destroyed bucket. Ok, so I am going to have to use the rusty o...

so close...

Well, here we are, MONTHS later, and I am still working on her.. I got the brake fluid flushed out today (there was a lot of "motor honey" -ish stuff in there, but it was at least clean and I saw no milkiness there. I flushed it from both calipers until clean DOT-3 was coming out. It took ...
