Welcome. The fuel delivery system can become clogged over time on older bikes. I agree with Volker, before digging into the bike check the air filter, the fuel filter if there is one, and take a look at the spark plugs, they will say a lot about what is happening. Some other less invasive things to ...

I had Avon tyres. AM21 front and Venom X rear. The Avon tyres was good when new, but when worn the handling suffered. I would have bought Avon again, but I got a good deal on the Dunlop tyres via a friend of mine. I paid $200 for both, installed and balanced. That is 1/2 price. Ibsen, How many km d...

Volker, DD, or Andy, or anyone else that has done the head job, How long does the head job take for a virgin? I have removed the carbs and have an estimate of the time for that job. If I am going to keep the 650 running I need to do the head job, but with a 1 year old daugher and other obligations, ...

But the money being spent keeps getting more and more and more....! One should never add up such costs. It can lead to heavy drinking or logic, both of which are bad when dealing with older bikes. :D The value of one of these bikes is what the buyer is willing to pay. One person may see a classic i...

Re: Might be time to sell.....
"No starting could e.g. have the simple reason that your choke flaps do not close completely. Then it will only start at warm weather if at all. Try at full pulled choke whether there is still way to turn at the (hard to access) choke lever between the carbs." -Volker Or just remove the si...

It's always a sad time when one has to part with a bike. I've loved every bike I've every owned. But having something reliable is important because it is about the riding as much as it is about fixing carbs. Spring is coming if you must sell her, and that's the time of year to do it. Just make...

The stock 16/40 works pretty well. Consider these bikes were orginally offered as light touring bike, although legal US speeds were lower then. As long as the bike is maitained she'll run 70-75mph on interstates all day with no problems. Your ass will give out before the engine will  The buzz o...
