Re: question about bench syncing.

interesting. thanks. so indeed it has nothing to do with actual phyical parts alignment, but as a matter of fact it's sounds like the special tools for this are for when wear /tear takes parts OUT of physical alignment and you can't go by it any more. So I'm guessing then we don't see people using ...

Re: question about bench syncing.

Hi juntjoo, I can't comment on VB carbs yet as mine are on my "to do" list, but on my PD slide carbs I did a bench sync by raising the idle screw and inserting a small drill bit under the number 2 slide (base slide with no adjuster), then lowering the idle screw until the drill bit was a n...

Re: is this hid kit good?

I'm pretty useless when it comes to electrics so I'll be no use to you on this  However, I have done my own modification to cut down on battery drainage which seems to be one of the major problems with these bikes :D I presume that DRL's mentioned in the link are Daytime Running Lights?...well...

Really can't help you with that mate cos I'm into bikes how they left the factory, as much as possible. I'm sure there are plenty of Nighthawks in the USA but here in the UK they are mighty scarce, the last time I saw one here was in 1982

Re: help needed with reassembling choke shaft

Hi juntjoo, sounds like everything is coming along nicely. I use long nose pliers to work the wire clips, just pinch the two little loops together and keep them under slight tension and slide them along the hose until they are where you want them.

Re: help needed with reassembling choke shaft

If the choke plates are still in place then just slacken all the screws, try the choke pulley to see if it still binds. If it does then you will know it is the pulley mechanism and not the plates.

Re: help needed with reassembling choke shaft

Have you removed the choke plates? If they are still in place and one of them is binding it could cause enough resistance to prevent the choke shaft from turning.

Re: Choke cable?

You may find it easier to make a wire loop to catch the pulley if it is difficult to reach between the carbs but I never had a problem. Just wrap a piece of fine wire around something round and twist it into a loop, I also find this a good little tool for connecting choke springs when I rebuild carb...

Re: help needed with reassembling choke shaft

Hi juntjoo, I see from your vid that you have already installed the choke plates (butterflies), you need to remove them and then try to operate your choke pulley. Your choke plates (butterflies) should only be put in when the rack is together as they can stick in the carb body. They should be loosel...

Re: Choke cable?

revell carb 012.JPG Loosen the screw in the green circle on the cable guide to release the cable, no need to undo the screw fully. Then unclip the cable from the pulley in the red circle. To replace the cable, first clip the nipple in to the pulley in the red circle then take up the slack in the ca...

Re: Choke cable?

It's not hard on a 1980 CB650 Custom with slide carbs if the tank is removed. Not sure about later models with CV carbs even though I did it on my Nighthawk but I don't remember doing it.
