Re: 1982 650 Nighthawk beginning maintenance

I would remove the left hand engine cover and check the gear change oil seal as these tend to leak often, it should be obvious if it is leaking.

Re: Misfiring Is Weird?

Hi Rgus, my first suggestion would be to check your spark plugs to see if there is an obvious difference between plugs 1+2 and 3+4, which might indicate that your air/fuel mixture might need adjusting on carbs 3+4. I would suggest new spark plugs, caps and leads, relatively cheap and easy to do, if ...

I can see why you wanted to remove the fairing, it looks so much better without it 8)

Re: 1982 650 Nighthawk beginning maintenance

Actually I bought a CB650 Custom that was a non runner, it had brand new chain and sprockets on it so I just swapped them over to my Nighthawk. I don't know what make they were but all sprocket/chain sets for SOHC CB650's are interchangeable, its the number of teeth at each sprocket that is the only...

Re: 1982 650 Nighthawk beginning maintenance

I have a new battery but It looks like the original battery is doing really well now. Ill keep checking to see if it lasts. Passed the basic rider coarse this weekend! Super good time, great instructors. Now I have a few weeks until the card comes in the mail... But there is still some things on th...

Re: poor performance

I found that there is no GASKET on my air filter - part #17217-426-300. Could this be the problem? anyone now were can I get this part? (it is missing in any site that I go to) If it is missing then it "could" be a problem, mine was also missing but I cut one out of a thick rubber type sh...

Re: 1982 650 Nighthawk beginning maintenance

Hi Mr_Crow, sorry to hear that, have a read through this thread, it will tell you how to test your battery and I think your charging system if your battery checks out ok, electrickery stuff gives me right pain in the head  http://www.hondacb650.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=13337&hilit=stato...

Re: 1982 650 Nighthawk beginning maintenance

The bottom side plate nobble is still on the bike! looks like its good condition as well. Wondering what kind of tricks I can use to re attach the nob so it will hold... checked out the air filter and it looked like it was in good condition, but there was a good chunk of leaves inside the filter. I...

Re: My CB650SC Nighthawks

Pretty darn good looking bike! Made me realize that I need to spend much more time cleaning my nighthawk lol. Thanks Mr_Crow :) , the bike was filthy in that pic as I'd just ridden to the MOT centre (UK road worthiness certificate) in a January rain/sleet shower. Cleaning them is all part of the ma...

My CB650SC Nighthawks

It occurred to me that I have never posted any pic's of my Nighthawk on this site so I'd better fix that, I haven't got any pic's of my CB650Z but it's not that much to look at just yet! First up is my US import Nighthawk from 82. Bought as a non runner and fixed up over the next 18 months, it took ...

Re: 1982 650 Nighthawk beginning maintenance

All of the bikes I own the lights dim when cranking the motor, it is perfectly normal. UK bikes aren't required to have lights on all of the time, only in the dark, so I change the right side switch gear on US import bikes for one from a UK bike as we have a separate ON/OFF switch for the lights ove...

Re: poor performance

Have you checked and cleaned your timing advance unit? located behind your pulse generator on the right hand side of your engine as you sit on the bike. The bob weights can stick so that your timing will not advance with engine speed.

Re: 1982 650 Nighthawk beginning maintenance

Mr_Crow, I know that there are LED replacement bulbs for a lot of bikes but I don't know if they are available for a 650 Honda, I do know that LED's don't generate heat so are cool to the touch, you may find better answers than I can give in this thread, http://hondacb650.com/viewtopic.php?t=3649 . ...
