Re: What happens when the OKI CDI goes bad?
Have you check the timing advancer yet? I can't remember if you have.
If not. clean, and lubricate it.
What plugs are you running? It may be a simple matter of the wrong heat range plug.

Re: oil oozing out of bolt heads on cam shaft cover.
MiGhost, I have the same issue on one side, and it is because the threads of that outboard bolt are stripped. I put a rubber gasket under the head because the threads got some purchase at that point, but I need to retap as you suggested. My question is, can I do this without tearing the engine apar...

You do not need the complete ignition cylinder, only the base cover.

Re: Sources of 650 Engine Parts
She is not a runner, but I intend to do a complete engine rebuild, hopefully with a Dynoman 674cc kit and ported head. You could easily go to 740cc with 750(DOHC) sleeves, and an 836 kit off ebay. I am sure you have read Paul's big bore build up over on SOHC4. There will be something even bigger in...

Re: oil oozing out of bolt heads on cam shaft cover.
While trying to start, we have oil oozing out from under bolt heads on either side of cam shaft cover. It looks like there are oil ports on both ends of cam shaft ends, Are we missing a O ring or something? Yes. There are oil ports for the cam on each end of the head. With oil seeping out of the en...

Re: Blown head gasket - stay away?
My questions to the seller would be. How was it determined that the head gasket was blown? Was a compression test done on the engine, and what were the readings? A blown head gasket is one that does not contain the compression within the cylinder. Either by leaking from one cylinder to another, or f...

Re: “New” 1979 CB650 Owner – seeking help, advice, knowledge
That patch looks to be a poor attempt to plug an oil leak caused by stripped out threads for the head cover bolts (mine is the same). Notice the non-OEM hardware, and hints of oil around the patch. It is likely the o-ring seal on the cover was compromised in the process. The casting would have to be...

The CDI is an electronic unit. It either works, or not. No middle ground. If you are firing on all 4. The CDI's are good.

Re: Missing or Bogging at High RPMs
Yes. The fuse on the solenoid is 30 amp.
Corroded battery, and ground cables will keep the coils from getting full voltage so yes that could be a possible cause of bogging at hgher rpms.

Double check those needles to make sure that there is not a ridge on the tip where they might have been seated to hard into the body. The top 2 in the pic look they might be.

Make sure to cut the strip of metal long enough to reach up onto the switch far enough for the clamp to get a good grip.
