Re: Troubleshooting starting issue 1982 CB650

Welcome here! :D, I do not get sound on the video so I do not know what it really does. So lets try something different: The starter should crank the engine when you bridge the two starter relay connectors by a thick cable. Does it? If it cranks that way -and as it seems to click- the contacts insid...

Thanks!
I will try a bit with alumina plates from scrap and see what happens.

Really impressing result!
I am curious how you made that. Some details on the tools you used would be interesting, too.

Re: Need Gearing Advice

Now I am a little bit confused because I would think that the RC03 frame with its straight rear tubes beneath the seat would have been the easier start to get where you are now. Actually this seems to me the most obvious difference between the RC03 and RC05 frames. Anyway you solved that alre...

Re: Need Gearing Advice

Listed where?
The 1979 has the RC03 frame while the 1980+1981 US models have the RC05 frame. I think RC03 vs. RC05 swing arms are different. So this might be an issue of chain length.

Welcome here, Brian! :D As you may have found out meanwhile there is not much activity on this forum any more. Anyway I think it still is a great source of information for everybody new to the CB650 SOHC bikes and I guess there are still many people reading here. Good to have a confirmation from tim...

Re: Engine noise! Need help!

Heat should help to pull out the bearings. E.g. remove everything of plastic and rubber and put the clutch cover into a oven. I doubt that Honda ever sold these bearings separately so there is probably no part number that could help. Means you need to get new bearings by their dimensions or slaughte...

Re: CDI pigtails

Welcome here! :D

The CB650 SOHC did have two "spark units" (one for cylinders 1+4 and another for the 2+3 ignition circuit) with cables and a plug.
Yours reads like something different.
So which bike exactly?

Re: Timing Chain Tensioner lower screw

Welcome here! :D Have a look at this great photo by Ibsen: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v291/ibsen22000/Cam%20chain%20tensioner/DSCN1174.jpg The screw in the center (just above the top of the alternator cover in the picture) is fixed by two clips from the steel rail so it should not go inside t...

Re: 1st bike

Welcome here! :D first issue to check is if there is enough oil in the engine. I would change the oil with filter soon in any case. Engine should be warm for that. Then look what came out with the oil. Age of tires might be an issue. They get hard with time and slippery especially at cold and wet ro...

Re: 1981 CB659 Petcock

Welcome here! :D Not sure about the filter, I think it is just plugged in to the petcock or fixed by a rim at the bung opening. It might not come out with the petcock in the latter case. Note that the tank petcock thread is different for different years/models, see e.g. post #7 at: http://www.hondac...

Re: What is this carburetor part called and where can i get it?

This is the floater needle seat. It might become leaky when clogged or damaged.
I recently wrote a bit about this issue here.
Not sure where to get these parts for the CB650 piston carbs however.

Re: Simple ignition upgrade for starting problem?

My first try would be to let it crank with a strong (car) battery and look if the spark gets stronger. Basically one could connect the coils black/white cables directly to the battery for a try and see if it makes a difference. Anyway I would first like to verify that plug cables and/or caps do not ...
