Re: Need Front Brake Calipers! 79-81

No, they have been bled twice, once to clear the line before the rebuild which came out like orange juice, and then a second time after the rebuild. The master cylinder looks after market and new, but it could be a OEM new. When my brother did the rebuild he noticed some pocking and out of roundness...

Need Front Brake Calipers! 79-81

Already rebuilt my calipers but they are freezing up again probably due to the specs on the pistons, they were a little pocked and very slightly out of round but I took a chance anyway. Don't want to buy two new pistons and have to do it all over again with fingers crossed. Looking for both front ca...

Re: GM HEI: Cheap and Extremely Effective Ignition Upgrade

...The thing that trips people up is that the yellow and blue wires with the white tubes need a good frame ground. Do not run without grounding these wires and the HEI units. ... ...A little update I found out why I was only getting spark on 1 of the pickups. The problem was that I was tapping into...

Re: GM HEI: Cheap and Extremely Effective Ignition Upgrade

The cowboy in the sunset pic was just for fun. Sorry Geek I just could not help myself. No offense taken! At least you made fun of something I laughed at as well. To date we have no 4 prong module success on a CB650 that has reported back to the forum. I am still following though and spring will so...

Re: GM HEI: Cheap and Extremely Effective Ignition Upgrade

Yeah I think that is the AutoZone test, or the multiple HEI Ignition module testers for sale on Ebay for 20 bux. As I said we are in the middle of winter so no work will be done for a while. I've gotten shocked and seen sparks with the plug wire connected to the spark plug laying on the head. I am p...

Re: GM HEI: Cheap and Extremely Effective Ignition Upgrade

That is my point. People who were patient and would send their stuff away for testing? I am still at odds with my own understanding how a 530 Ohm reluctor merits one diode with one 3.9K resistor biasing terminal G at startup to each module. This setup did not work for me the first and second times I...

Re: GM HEI: Cheap and Extremely Effective Ignition Upgrade

All you get from an Osilliscope is to tell you where you have been wrong. If this ignition is to get running on an poorly cared for CB650 from 79-81 no matter if it was a custom, or it was an 1100 Goldwing, Honda used the same parts. GM used the same parts as well. First order of business before att...

Re: GM HEI: Cheap and Extremely Effective Ignition Upgrade

I like it when you talk dirty to me, Pinhead!

Where was that wisdom pages ago?
That is wisdom, folks.

Let me pitch spark/flame theory on you now...I have extended tipped NGK #5829 - DP8EA-9 that are cheaper, more available, and come factory gapped to .9mm.

Re: GM HEI: Cheap and Extremely Effective Ignition Upgrade

Have some more info that may be helpful. Because my last attempt seriously overheated the modules, and I was jumping off a car battery, I remembered Lou's description of the positive DC feedback, and wondered why the voltages were off so much that they were loading the modules with the full 5.8 amps...

Re: GM HEI: Cheap and Extremely Effective Ignition Upgrade

These are the same problems I have run into, esp. with the 4 prong modules. The stock coils are only capable of a mean of 9kv when running, whereas the DIS ignition can produce 50-70Kv. It is possible the one coil that is shutting down is becoming overheated, which means it is likely out of spec. or...

Re: GM HEI: Cheap and Extremely Effective Ignition Upgrade

This information can really only be verified by someone who has held the crankshaft in their hands or can produce a good picture. Is it:

4...................1
....\ -3 - 2 - /

OR
........../ 2 - 1
4 - 3 /

??

My 81 Suzuki GS750E was 1,3 and 2,4.

Re: GM HEI: Cheap and Extremely Effective Ignition Upgrade

I am sorry you are in this situation. Did you only remove your modules or did you cut the wires in half? Where are you tying into the schematic? The correct wiring for the Coil wires are to C. The correct wiring for the reluctor negative (Ground) pickups are terminal G. White tubes represent Negativ...

Re: Project 100mpg

One more thing to know: Do you have a shorter time for the choke being required now? Most definitely. Before the rebuild on a typical 70°F day I had to keep the choke fully closed past the first stop sign, about 1/8th mile away, and half-closed through the next stop sign another mile away. Now I fu...
