Re: 1979 carb kit

Hi Wally, you can use a hole punch to put new holes in the top cover gaskets, that's what I did, cheap hole punches are available at Wilkos, I'm in the UK as well. I would avoid using any of the cheap carb kit metal parts as I don't think they are good quality.

Re: Cam chain

Hi, its been a while since I last did this but as far as I recall I put the chain on the sprocket before seating the sprocket on the camshaft, then put the sprocket bolts in when everything was lined up properly.

Re: Mutually exclusive carburetor issues

Hi Kingram, I had a similar problem with my CB650 Custom when I first bought it. The problem turned out to be the throttle cables were from a CB650Z and were a couple of inches shorter than the Custom cables, the handlebars on the Custom are a fair bit higher than on the CB650Z, it might be worth a ...

Re: Old Smokey is still smokin!

Ok, you never mentioned the valves so I thought I'd ask. When you say burning oil I presume you mean "using oil"? When you rebuilt the top end did you fill the oil gallery on top of the cylinder head? This holds a fair bit of oil and if it wasn't filled by you could account for some of you...

Re: Old Smokey is still smokin!

Hi flatlander, you don't mention anything about your valves, did you re-seat them and change the valve stem seals? When they go bad oil gets past them into the combustion chamber.

Re: Old Smokey is back!

Excellent news flatlander :D The bike is looking nice 8) I'm trying to clear floor space in my shed to work on my "80" Custom. The PO filled the motor up with metal when he helicoiled the cylinder head bolt threads, this got sucked up to the top end in an oily metallic soup and mashed up t...

Re: Oil filter spacer dimensions

I've got to get rid of a couple but I just can't decide which  The Enfield is a lovely bike to ride if you aren't in a hurry to get anywhere, if you are then that's where the Kwak comes in  I really love the Nighthawk though, so much that I have two of them, a UK and US spec.

Re: Oil filter spacer dimensions

Hello, yes I'd like to get the spacer from you and the spring if you have one? I will try and do a build thread to answer your questions 8) , now that I have worked out how to post pictures I know I haven't got a spring in my shed as there wasn't one on the spare engine that I stripped. There is an...

Howdy neighbour, not far at all. So here's the burning question, how come you've got two very similar CB650's? I think I've got a spare spacer somewhere in my shed if you get stuck. I thought the spoke wheeled CB650's had slide carbs not CV carbs.
