Welcome to the forum. 8) Have you checked the float heights? That is the first setting that has to be correct before you start playing around with jet sizes. And doesn't the CV carbs have plugs that are sealing off the pilot jets from the float bowl? If they do, check that these plugs are sealing pr...

The last ride of the season

Last Sunday I took the 650 out for the last ride this season and then put it into winter storage. I haven't had the time to ride the bike too much this season, I have only put 3000km/1900miles on the odo. The bike have been running like a clock all season, and after I rebuilt the starter cluch earli...

Welcome to the forum. 8) A couple of things that normally adds noise to these engines are an untesioned cam chain, valves that needs adjustment, and carbs out of synch. You start with the cam chain adjustment, then the valves, and if it still isn't idling smooth you synch the carbs. How to adjust va...

There are many models that use the same size gaskets. If you have a Honda dealership nearby you can take the gasket you have got to them for comparison and they should have replacements that fits.

I would not be surprised if the CM ignition switch doesn't match the 650 electrics.
What's wrong with the 650 ignition switch btw?

And here is the wiring diagram for the US 650.

Very nice looking bike. :) And it\s the first year model. Not many bikes were sold in the fall 1978 as far as I know.
Did someone replace the Z model tail light with a US model light.

Feeler gauges for valve adjustment

I bought a set of these feeler gauges and tried them on the 650. They are really worth the money spent.

I had a look at a couple of pics in the Haynes manual and on those pics it looks like the relay is strapped to the battery box with a rubber band. Edit I found it in the parts list for the European 650Z. It is a rubber band, and it is Honda parts number 35858-426-000 It is part number 16 on the diag...

This is how it is mounted on my 650Z. The starter relay is simply pushed down into the rubber holder, and the rubber holder are attached to the two ears on the side of the battery box. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v640/KZ400/Ibsen/650/DSCN3458.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v640/KZ400/Ib...

That is the way I adjust the free play in my clutch, and as far as I remember it is according to the Honda workshop manual.
