Re: 1982 650 Nighthawk beginning maintenance

In the UK it is just about impossible to find SOHC 650 Nighthawk parts as the bikes never sold here in great numbers. I first saw a Nighthawk in 1982 and I didn't see another until 2017 when I bought mine which was imported from America. Since then I have acquired a poor condition UK market Nighthaw...

Re: 1982 650 Nighthawk beginning maintenance

That is in very nice original condition Mr_Crow, I certainly wouldn't be drilling any holes in the side covers, I'd be getting my hands on some (any) side covers with the same type of lugs and sawing them off and gluing them on with some kind of epoxy resin. Well that's my plan when I get around to ...

Re: 1982 650 Nighthawk beginning maintenance

Hello Mr_Crow and welcome. Buy some decent tools would be my first suggestion to someone starting out with motorcycle maintenance. 1, These are old motorcycles, they do stink of oil and gas, the bike has been laid up for two years so when the engine gets hot it will "burn off" any oil or g...

The link won't work for me, only part of the link is highlighted but even copy & pasting it into my browser search won't open the link.

Re: '79 CB650 Front Turn Signal Wiring Issue

It depends which model the bike is, on my CB650SC Nighthawk and my CB650 Custom it is under the plastic cover between the handlebars, on my CB650Z I have no idea but I presume it would be around the same area. I have owned my CB650Z for about a year but its in the back of my shed on my "To Do&q...

Re: '79 CB650 Front Turn Signal Wiring Issue

Hi benrobbie, I presume that you are in the US where your bikes usually have the front turn signals (indicators in the UK) always illuminated? In the UK this isn't a legal requirement so the "constant on" front turn signals are usually disabled by disconnecting one wire on Imported motorcy...

Re: Hello

Michael, sorry bin a tad busy last little while, runs, just, but gutless. Had carbs checked over by professional but not made any difference. By a stroke of luck I managed to score a running engine, but due to unforseen circumstances, ie, a bloody heart attack, it's not been worked on for a bit. Mo...

Re: Advice on replacing gaskets

The only thing I can think of before you start work is to get a piece of thick cardboard and draw a rough outline of your rocker box cover and punch holes through the card for each of the 22 bolts, the bolts are three or four different sizes and it will save you a lot of fiddling about on reassembly...

Re: Dumping gas between carbs?

If Permatex is gasket goo then I'd be willing to bet that the PO didn't use any new gaskets, you shouldn't need any type of goo with new gaskets other than to tack the gaskets in place to aid assembly.

Re: air box

Hi Nick and welcome. That old chestnut again, my thoughts are to stick with stock but I'm sure there are plenty out there to disagree  I like factory standard bikes because here in the UK CB650's were never that popular, well the C's and SC's weren't anyway. You may find some useful info from t...

Re: Dumping gas between carbs?

Hi Brent, when I rebuilt my carbs I had no choice but to buy carb repair kits from Taiwan, they were pretty useless TBH, I just used the float bowl gaskets. I ended up buying selections of nitrile O rings from ebay as none of the kit O rings fit and I was dubious about using the brass parts. Now Dav...

My CB650 Z

I find the easiest way is click on Post A Reply, click on Attachments then Add Files which opens a window to My Documents on my PC, click on the picture I want to post (having first resized it so the largest dimension is around 750) and then click Place Inline. nighthawk exhaust and top end build 00...
