Re: Resurrecting my baby from her deep sleep, Folsoml's bike

Why did you open the engine at all? If it ran without suspicious noise I think you have enough other things to do. I would only clean out the oil pan. If no suspicious metal stuff in there, just close it again. For internal cleaning go for an extended turn at some load and make an oil change at hot...

There is a tube, but it's plastic.

Re: Resurrecting my baby from her deep sleep, Folsoml's bike

I have removed the engine block from the engine, and am in the process of cleaning the gasket residue and other junk from around the pistons. I am doing my best to keep debris from going down beside the pistons, but it is tough. Before I reassemble it, I was thinking of cleaning out the transmission...

Re: rear tire removal, problems, help

Can you not use a second wrench on the nut that is spinning? Have you tried PB Blast on the axle nut?

See if these pictures help your efforts. Bear with me, as my swing arm is not currently attached to the bike.

Re: Is there any saving this fuel tank?

I did it with the petcock in. :( It dies not seem damaged. There was not a filter screen on it when I got it. I intend to use an inline filter.

I know what you mean about them not being interchangeable. The one from my old tank does not match up with the one from this tank.

Re: Resurrecting my baby from her deep sleep, Folsoml's bike

Looks good! :) Hope the first picture was taken just after the first superficial sanding. The corners still look really tough. And I can see unprotected threads and labels. Yes, it was. I was doing all the sanding by hand (as opposed to sand blasting or anything). I was using a drill with a wire wh...

Painting from a Spray Can

The Clymer Manual mentions that you can get good results using quality paint from a spray can to paint your bike. What kind of paint would you recommend for the frame and tank?

Re: Is there any saving this fuel tank?

I found another tank on ebay. I cleaned it up with CLR, hot water, and a length of chain to scrub out the rust. I saw on http://www.hondacb650.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1411 a suggestion to use BB's. Another suggested using a length of chain, since the BBs were a pain to get out. I went with the c...

Re: Resurrecting my baby from her deep sleep, Folsoml's bike

The dark fuel situation may have not been caused by the oil can after all. Since the bike is completely disassembled right now, I re-assembled my lawn mower. When I took off the length of fuel line that was running the fuel to the bike, I saw that what dripped out was the same dark color I saw befor...

Re: Front Rim question.

It's tough to find CB650 specific wheels. Will other Honda wheels work on this bike as long as they are 19" diameter?

Front Rim question.

How can I tell the size of front rim I need for my bike? The markings on the current one are J19 X 185 780 DOT. Do all these numbers represent the size.

Would a the hub on the rim from a 74 CB750 fit the axle and other important parts of my 1981 CB650?

Re: Resurrecting my baby from her deep sleep, Folsoml's bike

In celebration of her starting for the first time in 21 years, I tore her down to the bare frame. Tomorrow, I'll start sanding the frame to repaint it. I'll also work on cleaning up the engine.
