My 1980 CB650 Custom

Postby dstaff » Sat Aug 02, 2014 6:58 am

Hi All,

Just wanted to show off my first bike. My "new to me" '80 CB650 Custom

Picked it up 2 weeks ago.

I'm toying with the idea of repainting it this winter. I like Blue paint scheme Honda had for this bike better.. Thoughts?

Looks good. the 2tone blue was on the 81 custom. You could just look for a tank and sidecovers. If you do that get the petcock also.
Did you clean the tank out?!?!?!?!

Nice; i like cb650's suggestion on that swapover; a lot less work and then you have in storage original tank and covers. Oil the tank so it won't rust if you do that.

One in that good of shape shouldnt be cut on. I cut a few things off my original (first) and regret it. A few mods here and there are ok.

If you get bored over the winter, and get the urge to start choppin, an swappin. Let me know. I'll be more than happy to give that bike a good home. I'm in the market for a nice stocker.

I'm convinced. I will keep mods to a minimum and keep this bike as stock as possible.
I've also had people come running across a parking lot to say how much they love my bike... I did after all buy a stock vintage bike for a reason.
I do have to touch up the tank... a previous owner scratched it while trying to put the seat back on.

Its a nice feeling when that happens isn't it. I was sitting at a stop sign the other night. when a woman coming thru the intersection stopped her car to tell me my bike was beautiful.

There is something to be said about having total strangers come up to you, and act like old friends simply because your bike triggered an old memory from the past.

We were out on a short ride one time when a car started following us. I pulled into an ice cream stand to get away from the car. After the car followed us in. This older couple came up to apologized for following for so long, and thanks us for the ride. They bought our ice cream, and we sat there for a while talking bikes, and how they had one back in the day. Turned into a great afternoon!

Absolute amazing feeling. This is my first ever Motorcycle, and I am in heaven whenever I'm on it. My only regret is that I should have done this decades ago...

I have to say so far the best feeling was very first time I got a wave from a fellow rider as we passed each other. I was absolutely giddy. :D

I wave @ regardless of what they are riding, The average none wavers are Goldwing Couples, and Road King Harley guys. If you dont wave i probably wouldnt want to know you anyways.
I know alot of Harley And Metric guys that have respect for anything someone has put time, sweat, & blood into regardless of brand.
