Hey guys,
Hope you're all well.
Just thought i'd drop in to say hey and show you my recent purchase.
It's my first bike, and i'm super chuffed. I have to change a few things including the rotor, stator and rectifier. I also want to change or clean the chain and sprockets, as the're pretty rusty.
I have two questions!
1. Do any of you guys know of any good places to pick up parts?
I'm based in Denmark, so the more European the better.
2. I'm trying to figure out exactly what year this model is...
I'm pretty certain it's a Z, and the guy who I bought it from tells me it's a 1982. I have a sneaky suspicion its a 1981. Is there a surefire way I can figure this out? I'd like to know so I can get ahold of the right parts.
Thanks a lot guys,
Ride safe!

Re: 1981 (?) Honda CB650
Nice looking bike. I'm leaning towards it being a 1981 model because of the silver engine (If it is in fact silver. Hard to tell 100% from the picture angle). Here is a thread with some discussion about identifying the year model of a Z.

Hi there,
few shops depending on what are you looking for: DavidSilverSpares uk, cmsnl.nl , gator.de .. I found some shops through ebay searches for certain parts. Check the prices against US prices, some thing are cheaper even with shipping - I have searched for piston rings, in EU is around 40€ per piston, while in US was 50$ for all 4.

Re: 1981 (?) Honda CB650
Silver really has nothing to do with year unless it a nitehawk/ lux custom.
from the carbs I would say 81 or 82. But some regions of the world got this model till 84. Looks like it was a police model but could just be the same style fairing.

Did you clean the tank out?!?!?!?!

The ID tag on the steering head will identify the year.

Not saying your wrong at all, because i have no idea what a police model looks like, so just a observation comment
This looks similar to a early 80's VFR Interceptor fairing, thats a heck of cool look on these bikes, and interesting, is it the same?

Yes it does look like a interceptor front. The police bikes didnt have much of any really. I guess it was just the all white.

Re: 1981 (?) Honda CB650
Thanks a lot for your help guys! Really appreciated.
A little further investigation confirms that it's a Z model. The fairing was put on by the previous owner, and gives it a pretty cool 80's police vibe although it's never been used in the force. Will be checking out those parts sites for sure. Currently having more luck on Ebay, but thanks so much for the info!

That previous comment - "A little further investigation confirms that it's a Z model" was wrong.
I ran a model number check on my bike and it's actually a B Model. B apparently standing for the time of manufacture.

I'd be interested to know more about that fairing as well. It looks great! I wasn't able to find any pics of Honda Interceptor or VF series bike with a round headlight and that style fairing though.

Re: 1981 (?) Honda CB650
The "b" is in fact the Honda code letter for 1981, "z" would be 1979.
However in this forum, "Z- model" usually means the European RC03 with the silver comstars and double front disk brake.
The US 1979 also has the RC03 frame but many differences to the European RC03 "Z-model".
The US standard and custom models have the RC05 frame.
All a bit confusing, especially when it comes to parts of different years and models.
