1980 CB650c finished product.

Postby The Volt » Mon Jun 01, 2015 4:41 pm

It's been a long time in the works, but besides a few minor kinks to work out here his my finished 1980 CB650c restored from the frame up. I'm thinking I will still need to go up to 118 or 120 on the main jets from 115. I'm around 2000ft above sea level so I thought the 115's would do the trick. Need some more time to ride it a bit more and dial that in. Also it looks like I will need a new front brake master cylinder as it is leaking around the base. Has been a fun project, thanks for having a look.

Looks nice! Your master cylinder may just need a new o-ring on the reservoir.

Thanks Folsom, yes I have tried swapping out the o-ring with a few different sizes....still seems to leak. Probably will just end up buying a new generic master cylinder with the brake light switch.

Hawk: Thank you. I made the seat from UHMW plastic material by heating it up with a torch and curving it to the frame like another member did on this site. I used layers of yoga matt glued together for the padding, and shaped it with an electric knife. I bought the leather and had a local upholstery shop make the seat cover for me. The seat attaches to a brace under the seat near the back of the bike where I shortened the frame.

Thanks guys. I have a front fender and I'm working on a design for a shorty back fender. But for now I just want to put some hours on it while the weather is good. I'm still getting some very fine rust in the float bowls still getting past the inline filter before the carbs, so looks like I will have to do a better job cleaning my tank. The seat is comfy, and I'm liking the clip-on handle bars. Here is another pic beside my good Friends KZ400/440 swap.

Just the stock 1980 Cb650C rear shocks. Might look funny in the last photo because I have my plate zip tied to the shock cover.
