Hello,
CB650 directed me to this site. I'm the proud owner of a 1979 CB650Z. Here's a link to current pics:

The pics are from when I picked the bike up in OH in November. It was dirty, but otherwise in decent shape. I am in need of a right side cover, if anyone has a spare they would like to sell.
I had to fly to WV, pick up the bike, and fly back to FL, where I live. The bike is still in WV at my dad's house, but I'm planning to get it toward the end of the month. Weather down here in FL has been great; I can't wait to get it down here and ride. My plans for the bike so far are to fix broken stuff, and a restoration/cafe build; nothing major.
Again, I am having a terrible time finding a right side cover; if anyone has a spare, I'll take it.

Welcome here!
Your CB looks fine, engine needs some cleaning but will certainly look great then. Does not really look like need for a rebuild.
BTW: yours is not a Z-model, usually you find them in Europe only. A very pretty example is Ibsens CB650Z, a closer look will show many slight differences. This may become important in case you need parts.

Volker is right, although I can see how it's easy to get them mixed up...
The only difference I can see is the Z model has the tail light molded into the seat, and it has dual front disc brakes and rearset pegs.
Here's Ibsen's sweet ride:
He added a front fairing to his bike, and it really changes the look (for the better IMO )

Welcome to the forum Wulfshrunting. It looks like you have found a very nice bike there.
Not many chassi parts are interchangeable, but the sidecovers on your 79 US 650Z and the 78-82 European (UK) 650Z are the same. Originally they were painted differently, but they are the same.
And according to this site: http://www.myhonda650.com/cb650history.htm and my Haynes manual, the first 1979 US model is a US CB650 Z.

Yes the 79 was a Z the only year of it in US. Most people call it a custom because of the comstar wheels but all 79's in US had them. 80 the styling changed and went the custom standard route. Thats why you are having a hard time getting the sidecover also. Dad even gave me a set for 80/82 for christmas. There is sweet 79 on ebay right now not to far from me. Bid is only 250 right now but imagine some yuppie scum will bid 2k right at the end.
Still hoping to get the sidecover for you.
