Hey there,

First post, first bike.

Bought this bike just over a year ago now, and when I bought her
the starter clutch was messed up among other things.

When the weather came around I tried to get it looked at by a mechanic (wasn't running), he wanted an absurd amount of money so I took it back.

user cb650 helped me a ton, and over about 6 weekends we got the damn thing running again.

We basically took it apart and put it back together, replacing the starter clutch and fixing a lot of smaller problems. It was an awesome experience and I'm going to continue working on the bike w/ cb650. Just going to keep making it the best it can be.

Good job with great result! :D
Didn't you like the chromed air chamber covers?
Guess it was crucial to have Terry around for learning. The tin cans indicate that he probably had some benefit, too.

Should have gotten pic of her on her side. Yes the cans help with the work. Its amazing I've been listening to utube vidios of 650's and half seen to have the tensiner in wrong.

Yes, I have a bunch of tensioners from different engines and more than half of them have the typical grinding traces at the bottom end rear (see below).

But sometimes just the tensioner is stuck. I usually need a few efforts until it is really good. That's why I do and recommend the check with a screwdriver at the camshaft sprocket.

I am going to revive this thread. I bought this from Adam shortly after. It has been sitting. My son wants a bike so am throwing it together for him to ride. Try to get some pics today. Have a new front and finally got the bearings out for new ones. Son wanted comstars. Putting on a 4-1. K&N airfilter. It did start up a couple weeks ago. Just might leak from sitting. If he likes it and wants to keep it we will do the top end next winter.

It starts and idles good. Cables need lubed. Davey wanted a 4-1 so put it on with a dump for the asshole neighbors. He will be getting a muffler. Very dirty close up. Still working on comstars he wants and brakes. While running today voltage was 14.3 at idle. Think thats to much. Will try another reg tomorrow and start cleaning connections.
