81' CB650 Bobber
81' CB650 Bobber
What up. Bought the bike around a year ago for $500. It was a failed cafe build from the previous owner and he never could get it to run right. It had new tires and was a decent price so I went for it. Then I turned it into this...
-rebuilt carbs
-wire tuck/chop
-no gauges, lights, fenders
-mustang gas tank with custom fuel sight
-ghetto hard tail conversion (still has swing arm)
-Braile dry cell battery mounted on swingarm
-WestEagle super thin solo seat
-30's ford tail light w/ custom plate mount
-heat wrapped exhaust
still needs:
-finalize air filter
-rebuild forks, add fork boots
-figure out fuel cutoff at high RPMs
-clean up bars/controls/cables
little halloween photoshoot
I'll get some better pics soon.

That's a really interesting, minimalist line.

Re: 81' CB650 Bobber
Made a video of the newer look...

Since the pictures:
-Rebuilt forks, added boots, blacked out entire forks
-Motocross throttle (eliminate stock kill switch/start button)
-Put headlights on toggle switch and toggle for starter
-Narrowed the bars
-Trimmed top triple tree, eliminating key switch
-Shorty Race levers
-Japan metal flake grips
-Steel ribbed fender
-Nickle plated tank/fender
-Custom intake tubes bolted to stock airbox
Still need to order shorter cables from MotionPro and finish up remote front brake master cylinder.

Re: 81' CB650 Bobber
I have a question about cleaning up bars.Is conversion to a single throttle cable was just a simple swapping party?
Re: 81' CB650 Bobber
I hope my bobber project turns our half as good as this! Great job!
Thanks for the pics/video!

Remove the carbs and unhook the push cable. Then unthread from the throttle housing.

Thanks!

Very nice sicj. I think we have the same taste in styles.
Question about the exhaust. I like where it terminates. Are they just straight pipes or do you have any kind of baffle or muffler set-up? I've been told that just removing the muffler would make the bike too loud... if there is such a thing.

It's straight headers. Yes it makes it louder. Unless you take it past 5-6k rpm it's a pretty quite bike. It's still nowhere near as loud as v-twin bike running just headers.

Re: 81' CB650 Bobber
I would not overdo minimalism with regard to the front brake.
With the poor rear brake alone the bike will become quite unstable during braking.
So something to look at, but nothing to really ride it.
