My 1980 CB650

Postby garykohl2 » Sat Dec 31, 2011 11:16 pm

Hey everybody! I just wanted to post a picture of my CB. I just bought it yesterday and I love it so far. Its a 1980 with 32,000 miles and in outstanding shape. Not sure of my plans with it yet.... Originally I wanted to turn into into a cafe racer but it is so nice I might just leave it original for now. I'll try to get some more pictures tomorrow but for now here is one I took today with my phone.

Welcome, and congrats on scoring that nice bike. I agree that it is too nice to cut up. It looks like it was very loved and taken care of. There appears to have been a few changes to it though. The comstar wheels were on the custom model and spoke wheels were on the standard model. It also, looks like a chrome cover has been added to the sides of the cooling fins on the bike.

Welcome here! :D
As already written, really nice bike with many decent modifications. You have to know how a 1980 has to look like to detect the differences. Someone did a very good job there. Would keep it like that, too.
Interesting rear springs. Obviously he made his own progressive spring from just using two different springs.

I thought something looked different about the spring, but didn't catch that one Volker.

:) all right:
- engine is painted black.
- crash bars are mounted.
- red carb overflow hoses.
- long boom mirrors.
unsure about handlebars: might be stock or slightly higher.

The chrome fuse cover is also not original. Pictures of my bike won't be much help to you, since I have had to build it from the parts of many. I have many parts on it that are not original.
If I had that bike, I would leave it exactly as it is.

I am definately going to change grips and that will be about it I think. I am still debating on the handlebars though. I think it would look and feel better with some lower bars.

Is that fuse cover chromed plastic? I would love to get some in alum. The gauges have a non stock chrome ring.
The bars off a standard are lower. but you can got to any bike shop and see whats on the rack.

Thanks guys! I'm really enjoying riding it. My wife and I went out on it yesterday and had a great ride. This is my first CB. I've had an XS650 and several new bikes but so far this is my favorite. 8)
