79 Frankenbike it started with a crate motor

Postby jopace » Tue Aug 19, 2008 7:07 pm

hey yall
i am going to post some pics of my 79 Frankenbike as i like to call her.
she is year irrelevent other than the seat tank and side panels wich are pretty much the only parts of a 79 that i liked. It all started witha crate motor I got off ebay brand new cb650sc motor black unfortunately but still new. the guy had 2 the other was the all silver type. so I bought a $200 beater which had been left out 10 plus years atleast, but a carb cleaning and that motor ran not bad even with rotted pipes, I have video of that. tore it all down then started re assembly with many different years parts all cb650 parts though. I see many people asking what fits year to year this may help some off those questions. also big parts tip Check Beaver Dam Honda for new OEM parts pricing before ebaying it. You can actually get some cheaper there. anyway onto posting some pics if I can figure it out.

Welcome here! :D
Thanks for the pictures, seems like you did a lot of work. Quite impressing result.
You already know that you need the CV carbs for the black (RC08E) engine? Alternatively you have to use your old cylinder head (maybe after painting it black) to reuse the old piston carbs.
Parts interchangeability (RC03-RC05-RC08 and even between years) is somewhat annoying as there are many parts that look equal at a first glance but have slightly different dimensions. Sometimes they fit anyway, sometimes you have to change it together with a second part and sometimes there is just no chance. :?

Very nice 8)

Like the 4-4 exhausts. Is that a standard exhaust on US bikes? It looks much better than the UK 4-2 system, more like the original 750's

I think the US bikes came with a rusted-through collector and random exhaust from the factory. ;)
