Re: new to the 650 and site
pic #2, new spark plug wires, rear tire. a new front tire is on order along w/ a new front brake master cyclinder(the one that came on the bike and the stock used replacement i bought both leak ). the air filters need to be put on along w/ the oil cooler. i would like to go w/ clubman/clipon bars but dont think it would look good w/ the style of gastank. will a standard model cb650 gastank work on this model 650 sc 1981?

Welcome here!
Not bad for 150.-. Really not bad!
Guess there are people who would pay real money for that kind of seat. Not me, BTW.
If the ignitors were molten out this does not mean they don't work an more. They may be refilled e.g. with JBweld and often just work for some more decades.
I think an oil cooler is not really required unless you go for racing.
I would leave the crash bars in place. Could make the difference between waiting for help next to a large oil puddle on the road or just kicking them back in place and continue riding.
Tried this out several times.
The tanks of 1980/81 custom/standard (RC05 frame) look more or less equal and are interchangeable. But note that 1980 vs. 1981 petcock thread size is different! 1979 or Z-model (RC03 frame) tank is larger and longer and will not fit without seat modification.

Re: new to the 650 and site
And frame mod in the rear to work. All 650 sohc4 tanks have the same shape after 80. The threads for the petcock come into issue though.
Did you clean the tank out?!?!?!?!

Re: new to the 650 and site
so a 80/81 standard gas tank will work but make sure i get a petcock w/ it, thanks for the imput.
Re: new to the 650 and site
The 80 will have a smaller fuel line out let but you can make it work. The tank will look the same as what u already have.

Re: new to the 650 and site
AFAIK the 79 tank should fit at the front, however you need to make a new rear mount and cut the seat and possibly also make a new seat front mount.
