Major disappointment tonight though. I dropped the engine in and the shock bottoms right out. I spent a lot of time designing the mounts and positioning it but it's just one of those things that you can't figure out 100% until it's all together. So, it's back to the drawing board for the rear suspension and a ton of tear down, plasma cutting, grinding, measuring, fabbing and welding all over again!

It worked in the mock up phase with the engine in but I didn't have the forks on I was suspending the head tube from the rafters. I guess having it sitting on both tires makes a difference. I've never been employed by Honda so I'm definitely learning as I go.

That sucks, but as you said, it happens. Got a nice set up though. You're right with the front end hanging off the roof, it takes quite a bit of weight off the bike & changes the balance. You'll get it. I played with mine most of the summer & only got to ride it a little. Then I sold it. Got a deal I couldn't pass up on another bike. Of course I'm playing with that now. At least it's cold out.

Guess what you need is a calculation of levers and forces.
Or a really huge adjustment range for the mounting of the shock.
Guess the first setup with the rear(bottom) spring mount much higher would point to the right direction.

Found the sweet spot! Moved the rear shock mount up. Good travel, allows for shock preload adjustment and I actually like the look better, tends to hide the shock more. Now I just have to wait for some more tube to arrive and find more time to fab up the mount permanently and replace the section were the mount used to be with straight tube.

Great attitude .Your softail bobber conversion looks better and better.If you wanted to achieve look of tough rigid frame without back pain, I think you got it.

Been a cold and busy winter! Finally warmed up enough so that my hands weren't sticking to the tools! Trying to get her together enough to fire her up and give it a shake down run, then I'll break it back down for paint and details.
